Good Gear Guide - 7/18/2007 - reviews the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W55 and writes, “The controls are simple but effective, with a function wheel and directional pad handling most of the work. Novice users should have little trouble with the interface as everything is laid out in a clear, logical fashion. A solid all around compact camera, Sony’s Cyber-Shot DSC-W55 will appeal to users looking for a no-fuss entry into the digital photography market.”
Unbeatable - 6/1/2007 - reviews the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W55 and writes, “Although the DSC-W55 doesn’t offer any unique features, it is a solid digicam that is a quick performer and displays great colourful and crisp images that can’t be grumbled at. A good price for a good entry level digital camera.”
Cameras.co.uk - 4/28/2007 - has reviewed the 7.2 megapixel Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W55 and thought is produced a lot of redeye in indoor portraits. They continue to write, “I found it difficult to find fault with the Sony DSC W55. For a pocket sized digital camera it is relatively inexpensive. Despite that it has all the regular features you would expect to find and is well worth a close look.”
DPExpert - 4/18/2007 - has reviewed the 7.2 megapixel Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W55 and writes, “This is a good compact camera that we enjoyed using. Up to ISO 200 it produces fine images. It has selectable aspect ratios and it can take pictures in the right ratio and pixel dimension for widescreen high definition televisions, (16:9 and 1920×1080 pixels) but be warned, what is good for the telly is not necessarily good for printing. Even a high definition TV is a relatively low resolution device.”
ImagingResource - 4/12/2007 - has reviewed the 7.2 megapixel Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W55 and writes, “Most unusual for a compact camera in this size and price range though, is the extensive list of accessories available for it from Sony. There are filters, accessory wide angle and telephoto lenses, a slave flash, an underwater case and even a macro ring light for close-ups. This was the first Sony camera I’d used, but I was able to navigate the menus easily and was ready to shoot in just a few minutes. Particularly for a camera that you can carry in most any pocket, the Sony DSC-W55 boasts a lot of features, and the controls are laid out well. Offering good sharpness and color, a strong feature set, and available in four colors (black, pink, silver, or blue), all at an attractive price, the Sony DSC-W55 has a lot going for it.”
CNET - 3/28/2007 - has reviewed the 7.2 megapixel Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W55 and writes, “The good: Solid image quality and performance; brushed-aluminum faceplate is a pretty touch for a budget model. The bad: Plastic body; review button is not easy to press. The bottom line: It’s not the fanciest camera, but quick performance and solid images make this sub-$200 shooter a worthwhile pick. “
PhotoReview - 3/28/2007 - reviewed the 7.2 megapixel Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W55 and writes, “Test shots taken with the W55 were bright and colourful with elevated contrast and saturation. Consequently, although highlight and shadow details were not recorded in shots taken in bright sunshine, overall the impression of vivid colours and sharp detail was conveyed. Imatest showed overall colour accuracy to be good and saturation to be typical of a point-and-shoot digicam.”
DCResource - 2/21/2007 - reviewed the 7.2 megapixel Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W55 and writes, “While not a giant leap over its predecessor, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W55 is still a capable, ultra-compact camera that I can recommend to just about everyone. It offers a stylish design, great performance, good photo quality, and a low price. If you shoot in mixed or unusual lighting, or take a lot of long exposures I wouldn’t recommend it, but for everyone else it’s worth a look.”
