DigitalCameraReview – 17 March’08 – has reviewed the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T70 and felt it was not for taking serious photos. Here’s a summary of their review -
“What’s great about this camera is it’s tiny and it produces ok photographs that are occasionally a little on the soft side. While the reviewer was not impressed with the touch screen they did say that if you factor in the neat small size and ease of use the T70 may not be an industry leader but it’s definitely worth taking a look at.”
CNET – 14 February’08 – has reviewed the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T70 and thought the touch screen LCD was a little on the unresponsive side. Here’s a summary of their review -
“Here’s an impressive performer that gives great looking photos as long as you stay in the lower ISO settings. The reviewer like the image stabilization but as mentioned earlier was not thrilled with the touch screen performance.”
TrustedReviews – 22 January’08 – has reviewed the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T70 and warns, just because the lens indicates it’s Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar, don’t be fooled. Here’s a summary of their review -
“This camera has lots of features but as the reviewer indicates they’re mostly gimmicks with no real value. Ouch. On the positive side this little camera is fast performing, pretty good image stabilization and has a hard to beat low light focusing system. however, its touch screen system is not good and the image quality leaves a lot to be desired.”
StevesDigicams – 16 January’08 – has reviewed the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T70 and notes if you don’t like the price tag on its bigger brother the T200 this camera has basically the same features for a lot less money. Cool! Here’s a summary of their review -
“Ultra compact camera that in StevesDigicams words “was designed to be used by anyone.” The touch screen navigation system is really easy to maneuver around in and the image quality and camera performance was excellent. So the bottom line – this is one outstanding digicam.”

Wow, now that’s a glowing endorsement if I’ve ever seen one.
ePhotozine – 04 January’08 – has reviewed the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T70 and was not impressed with the small zoom control rocker button and the slow zoom performance. Here’s a summary of their review -
“Backtracking through the menu structure seems overly complicated and the slow unresponsive zoom drag this cameras overall score down. However, it did deliver fairly good digital noise results and its photos have accurate colors so if you like the look of the Sony’s T100 or T200 but can’t quite come up with the bucks this just might be your camera.”
PC Mag – 11 December’07 – has reviewed the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T70 and writes the camera suffers from poor low light performance. Here’s an excerpt from their review -
“If you’re a style-conscious snapshooter, there are plenty of ultracompact models to choose from, including Fuji’s FinePix Z10fd and the Nikon Coolpix S200. But neither offers the superior style and better-than-average features that the Sony Cybershot DSC-T70 delivers. While low light shots were disappointing, overall image quality is good, and the wide 3-inch LCD with touch-screen controls and robust in-camera editing options help sweeten the deal.”
Unbeatable – 04 December’07 – has reviewed the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T70 and really like the smile shutter function. Here’s an excerpt from their review -
“The Sony Cybershot T70 digital camera is a very impressive model indeed, with stunning looks and a great performance with some great features. The price tag is good too, considering the T70 has an original feature as well as amazing response times.”
CameraLabs – 18 November’07 – has reviewed the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T70 and warns the camera is a little to aggressive in the noise reduction department. Here’s an excerpt from their review verdict -
“There’s no denying the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T70 is a desirable-looking compact with some neat features. Sony’s distinctive styling and unique gadgetry will see it immediately appeal to some people. And to be fair the gadgets are pretty good – the touch-screen is fun to use, the HD slideshows look great and the Smile Shutter feature will really get your friends talking. Whether you’ll end up using it regularly or just for fun demonstrations though remains to be seen.”
CNET.co.uk – 12 November’07 – has reviewed the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T70 and thought the auto white balance did a wonderful job of figuring out different lighting situations. Here’s an excerpt from their review -
“The touchscreen is probably the make or break feature of the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T70. If you don’t get on with the touchscreen but still value refined styling, the Canon Digital IXUS 860 IS has a similar-sized screen but is fairly more expensive.”
PhotoReview – 05 November’07 – has reviewed the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T70 and notes this is basically a scaled down T200. Here’s an excerpt from their review -
“Pictures taken with the test camera were bright and colorful with plenty of detail and lively colors. Exposures were biased slightly in favor of shadows so highlights tended to block up in outdoor shots, although dynamic range was wider than we’ve found in many digicams. (This is probably due to the Bionz image processor.)”
Cameras.co.uk – 19 October’07 – has reviewed the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T70 and commented that the picture quality was above average. Here’s an excerpt from their review verdict -
“Picture quality and build quality place the DSC T70 towards the front rank of true pocket sized digital cameras. It also has very fast shutter response times.”
GoodGearGuide – 18 October’07 – has reviewed the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T70 and liked it because it felt like a slimmed down T200 but still offers touch screen technology. Here’s an excerpt from their review -
“Of course the really nifty thing about this model is the touch screen, and as with the T200 it operates very well. It is perhaps a bit more sensitive than the T200 screen, but it is also a little smaller, measuring just 3in. The entire interface is on the screen and Sony has designed it well enough that even those with large fingers should have no trouble navigating. It also allows you to do funky things like pick a focus point simply by tapping, and zoom in and out of your shots by touching the point you wish to enlarge.”
e-PhotoGraphia has an exclusive review of the new Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T70 and were very impressed by the 16:9 touchscreen LCD. Low resolution was the only fault of the LCD. The reviewer noted the case of T70 had a strong resemblance to the Apple iPod. If you choose the camera can be completely auto driven or it has a P mode that allows you to perform a few adjustments and as the reviewer noted there are no aperture or shutter priority modes. One cool feature was the smile shutter function which works in conjunction with the face recognition function. When there’s a smile in the frame the camera fires.

Wide-angle capability was limited with maximum wide angle coverage of 39mm (35mm equivalent) and the images were not very sharp.

Bottom Line: Beautiful camera and because of the touch screen, very easy to use.. Don’t expect excellent photo quality and as long as you limit your enlargements to 5 x 7” you will be satisfied.
