“Of course, image quality is very important in a camera, which is why we can’t wholeheartedly recommend the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-S980. Nevertheless, it is a nice, cheap option for an aspiring younger photographer, and it has basic, intuitive controls that would be easy for anyone to learn. For almost any other buyer looking for a Sony point-and-shoot, we’d recommend plopping down the extra $50 for the vastly better Cyber-shot DSC-W230.”

“I purchased this camera and had to wait for it to come on the market. The controls are easy to use and the picture quality is awesome .You need to read the book first to learn the settings, battery power is good.I would recommend this camera to anyone. It takes awesome closeups.”

“I bought this Sony DSC-S980 to replace my broken Canon 770IS. The reason I decided to take this one is that it cost me only 150$ (compared to $220 for the Canon)and it came from Sony – a famous brand name. However, right after I took the very first pictures, I was completely disappointed! Even though this was a 12.1-mega-pixel camera, the images looked worse than that of Canon with 10 mega pixes. The output images always looked somewhat dark (even turn on flash already).”

“This is a good little camera for everyday use. I am an old film shooter so this digital camera is new to me. Took 300 shots of my house in and out for insurance record. Worked great and downloaded onto my computer with no problem. Wish it had a view finder. Hard to get use to looking at a little screen. For a good camera with a view finder you need to spend $500 and up so for the price the Sony is great.”

Hi there
Hoping you can help… i luckily had my Cybershot DSC S-980 camera with me out one day, however my house was burgled and my whole box has gone, the cd rom, manual, everything. Ive now purchased a new laptop but obviously cannot download the pictures from my camera. I have windows vista which i know is compatible as i did it last time. Is there anyway i can download the software again or if you can send? Would be most grateful.
Thanks.
