Samsung S1050

by DCT on December 31, 2007

The S1050 includes Samsung’s Intelligent Face Recognition Technology, which detects the subject’s face, automatically adjusts auto focus and auto exposure to ensure better composition and image quality in portraits, and other shots featuring people. The AF function instantaneously recognizes the faces of subjects and accurately focuses on them. The AE function then takes over, setting the appropriate exposure to ensure the highest image quality.

Users will be able to take advantage of the S1050’s speed and resolution in any situation – from taking landscape photos at dusk to shooting fast action sports photography. Razor sharp images can be delivered using Samsung’s ASR (Advanced Shake Reduction) system which helps to reduce camera shake and image blur during longer exposure shots or in lower light conditions.

For maximum versatility, the S1050 can be powered by an optional Samsung rechargeable Ni-MH battery system, as well as available-everywhere AA alkaline batteries, making it the perfect choice for travellers and power users alike.

Other features include:

* Shutter speeds of up to 1/2000 sec
* An ISO equivalent of 1600
* A bright 2.5” LCD display
* “One-touch Playback” for instant playback of an image, even when the power is off
* Aperture priority, shutter priority and full manual control is available
* 45 megabytes of internal memory, and can accept Secure Digital (SD, MML, SDHC) flash memory cards up to 4 gigabytes
* 11 scene modes including Night, Portrait, Children, Landscape, Close-up, Sunset, Backlight, Fireworks and Beach & Snow
* Colour effects include B/W, sepia, blue, green and red
* Continuous Shooting mode and Auto Exposure Bracketing (AEB), enabling the shooting of a series of images with varying exposures
* An Auto Macro function that automatically adjusts shooting distance and focus
* Movie mode lets users capture video in one of four resolutions, from 160×128 to 800×600, at up to 20 frames per second in AVI (MPEG-4) format. Image stabilization can be engaged to compensate for unwanted camera movement and subject blur
* Unlike other compact cameras, the S1050 features a moulded, ergonomic grip that makes framing, steadying, and shooting a breeze
* A built-in microphone allows a 10-second voice memo to be attached to any still image

Samsung S1050 query: I am desperate to find out the specifications of what must go into the DC receptacle.
The user manual makes no mention of this.
I tried to contact Samsung on their official site but get no joy.
I have an external power supply originally meant for a Sony that also had two NiCd batteries and is rated at 4,2V 1,5A but will not connect it until I have confirmation that it is safe.
No-one locally or thusfar anywhere else seems to be able to answer this question.
Taking my question a little further it would be nice to know if the camera has control circuitry to charge the batteries from that socket or whether they are disconnected when inserting the DC plug.

Hans……
I was trying to discover the information, especially as I need to take a series of Macro pictures of Archaelogical artifacts, I will need a DC power source to keep the cost of batteries down! I’ve already contacted Samsung UK, who also don’t know the answer (what surprise!), but have promised to escalate in enquiry. I think you’ll need a 3volt 1.5amp PSU as its carrying out a powering & NOT charging function with the camera.
DON’T select the wrong tip polarity or you’ll fry the camera!!!
My guess its a 3v DC supply, (as it says 3v DC on the rubber port flap!) My second “guess” is that it’s a positive tip plug that’s needed to plug into the DC in socket, about 1.5mm diameter with a “yellow” tip to denote the correct size of plug used in multiple plug Universal Power Supply units that can “swap”
the polarity of the tip by rotating the two-pin plug on the end of the cable.
DO NOT PROCEED UNTIL WE KNOW FOR SURE ABOUT THE TIP POLARITY(ie positive or negative tip), email me to see what I learn from Samsung UK.
