Trusted Reviews - 6/28/2007 - reviews the Samsung NV7 OPS and writes, “The Samsung NV7 OPS had the potential to be an outstanding camera, with a superb lens, great styling, adequate performance and a useful range of features including image stabilization. However the sub-standard image processing system and resulting image noise problems really let it down.”

CNET - 6/22/2007 - reviews the Samsung NV7 OPS and writes, “The good: Long zoom for its size; pause during movie capture; voice notes.

The bad: No optical viewfinder; LCD washes out and has narrow viewing angle; all-around noisy photos with poor white balance; camera automatically mutes audio while zooming in movies.

The bottom line: The Samsung NV7 OPS’ novel, engaging interface can’t compensate for merely adequate performance and so-so photo quality.”

CEN - 5/1/2007 - reviews the 7.2 megapixel Samsung NV7 OPS and writes, “If you are looking for a digital camera that is compact and will fit into your shirt pocket, this model is not it. Likewise, if you want a camera that has a lens that retracts into the body, you’ll have to look elsewhere, perhaps the NV10 in Samsung’s line. In all, the feature set to the NV7 is deep, yet accessing those features is very easy, thanks to its original, unique menuing interface.”

LapTop - 4/8/2007 - reviews the 7.2 megapixel Samsung NV7 OPS and writes, “Overall, the Samsung NV7 OPS feels solid and produces decent images in most situations, although its interface involves a bit of a learning curve. If you’re not quite ready for a DSLR, however, this digicam is worth a look.”

Zone-Numerique - 4/5/2007 - a French site (Google translated) reviews the 7.2 megapixel Samsung NV7 OPS and writes, “What a satisfaction! Finally on compact, one can allow oneself to photograph with more than 3 meters without the photograph being awfully dark. Moreover, it is very original since it is a flash which is folded up on itself. In addition to being powerful, it is very well regulated: that one takes a portrait with 1 meter or 4 meters, the exposure will be the same one in both cases.”

DigicamReview - 4/4/2007 - reviews the 7.2 megapixel Samsung NV7 OPS and writes, “Sometimes a little bit of noise is acceptable, especially if you can use the lowest ISO setting for noise free photos, but the NV7 features noise even when using ISO100. The “Smart Touch” interface is an interesting idea, but whilst it was designed to make using the camera easier, none of the buttons are labelled, and I found the controls fiddly and difficult to use, meaning even the simplest of changes were time consuming. The camera has appealing features, such as CCD-shift image stabilisation, a 7x optical zoom lens, however, it also has a number of annoying faults: for example optical image stabilisation is off by default, the lens is rather bulky meaning the camera is difficult to fit in your pocket, noise is visible at all ISO settings, and battery life is disappointingly short. Overall, it makes it difficult to recommend this camera. It produces bright colourful images, and is fairly speedy in operation, but I found it annoying and awkward to use, even after several weeks of trying to get used to the user interface.”

ThinkCamera - 3/14/2007 - reviews the 7.2 megapixel Samsung NV7 OPS and writes, “With all the extra featureson the Samsung NV7 the battery life suffers. I got a measly 40 photos before it conked out on me, which is disappointing to say the least. I know, in the “old” days we went out with a 36 exposure film and came back with some unused. But nowadays you would expect to be able to take at least 100 photos on one charge. I suspect it was down to me trying out the OPS, playing back the photos on the LCD and using the flash quite a lot.”

DCResource - 3/1/2007 - reviews the 7.2 megapixel Samsung NV7 OPS and writes, “Camera performance was good in some areas, and not-so-good in others. The NV7’s three second startup time is nothing to write home about, though it has decent focus speeds, even in low light. Shutter lag was not an issue, and shot-to-shot delays were minimal, as long as you’re not using the ASR feature. If you are, expect 2-4 second waits between shots. The NV7 has several continuous shooting modes, none of which are impressive. One’s too slow, while the fast ones black out the LCD during shooting, which makes it kind of hard to track a moving subject. Battery life on the NV7 is well below average.”

CEN - 2/11/2007 - reviews the 7.2 megapixel Samsung NV7 OPS and thought the advanced anti shake reduction worked really well. They continue to write - “If you are looking for a digital camera that is compact and will fit into your shirt pocket, this model is not it.

Ephotozine - 2/6/2007 - reviews the 7.2 megapixel Samsung NV7 OPS and thought the image quality was mediocre. They continue to write - “Handling and overall control is superb, but that lens does make it awkward to just slip into a pocket. The benefit of the lens is that images are nice and sharp throughout, but image quality really is not great, with noticable variations and artefacts even at ISO100. That said, flash produces very nice tones in portraits, the macro function is brilliant and the button-LCD system enables the camera to be used without ever reading the manual. The NV7 has a real quality look and feel. If handling and looks are more important than outright image quality, then this is a unique and spectacular compact camera. If you are intending to print your images large though, this is perhaps not the camera for you.”

PhotographyBlog - 11/22/2006 - reviews the 7.2 megapixel Samsung NV7 OPS and they write - “The Samsung NV7 really does look and feel different to most other cameras out there and is superbly designed and built. The 7x zoom lens opens up a wealth of photographic opportunities and is coupled with an effective image stabilisation system, although that fact that its turned off by default whenever you power-down the camera is puzzling to say the least.”

CNET Asia - 11/20/2006 - reviews the 7.2 megapixel Samsung NV7 OPS and they write - “The good: Compact size for a full-featured camera; optical image stabilization; Smart Touch user interface; 7x optical zoom; full manual shooting mode. The bad: Lens cap a hassle to deal with; flimsy pop-up flash; cannot adjust volume during video playback; noisy images. The bottom line: The NV7 is one of the smallest prosumer cameras but it could do better without the protruding lens and better image quality.”

DigitalCameraInfo - 10/6/2006 - reviews the 7.2 megapixel Samsung NV7 OPS and they write - “Samsung priced the NV7 at $399 and I can take plenty of guesses why. Perhaps it’s the 7.2-megapixel image sensor. Perhaps it is the high-resolution 2.5-inch LCD screen with the groundbreaking Smart Touch interface. Maybe it is the 7x optical zoom lens pinned onto the 0.8-inch thick body. Perhaps it is the optical picture stabilization system that is so effective it even warrants the end of the camera’s title, Samsung NV7 OPS. The camera has many great qualities, but most have to do with its raw specs. The camera also has plenty of great components, but those didn’t translate into beautiful pictures on the display model we examined. Many of the pictures looked blurry, noisy, or distorted from various recording factors. So while the Samsung NV7 OPS looks like the next big thing on paper, if there isn’t a firmware fix or some other alterations to the internal components prior to shipping, its pictures won’t pan out to be as gorgeous as its specifications.”
