Cameras.co.uk - 4/4/2007 - has reviewed the 7 megapixel Samsung NV3 and they write - “The design and style of the Samsung Digimax NV3 really appeals to me. It is one of the slimmest digital cameras you will find and fit into a pocket without any problem at all. It can handle most photographic opportunities and is reasonably priced.”

TechTree - 4/2/2007 - has reviewed the 7 megapixel Samsung NV3 and they write - “The Samsung NV3 is available for Rs. 21990/- with a one-year warranty. Given the features and the quality of the camera, I’d say this is a great buy especially due to the fact that the NV3 comes with ASR (Advanced Shake Reduction). It may not be able to reproduce images as good as some of its competitors, but what the NV3 loses in quality it makes up in it’s unique set of features and functionality. Good buy for someone wanting a decent camera with a unique set of features, something that will definitely make the user stand out in a crowd.”

PCWorld - 3/19/2007 - has reviewed the 7 megapixel Samsung NV3 and they write - “If you’re looking for a good $250 digital camera, you have bunches to choose from–and many candidates offer better image quality than the NV3 does. On the other hand, its novel multimedia capabilities come at no significant price premium, giving it an odd sort of attraction.”

DPReview - 1/24/2007 - reviews the 7.2 megapixel Samsung NV7 OPS and was disappointed with its photographic results. They continue to write - “If the NV range is a taste of things to come then I say ‘bring it on’ - the NV7 OPS could have been a candidate for the product of the year had it produced results to match its features. It’s almost good enough - on balance - to scrape a Recommended, but given the list of cons at the top of this page I can only advise caution for anyone thinking of handing over money for it, no matter how good the deal looks.”

PCW - 1/4/2007 - reviews the 7.2 megapixel Samsung NV7 OPS and they write - “On two occasions during testing we found the NV7 locked up entirely, forcing us to remove the battery to re-start the camera. Unfortunately, on one occasion this lead to corruption of our SD card - a real worry if you’ve been out on a shoot all day. We were able to retrieve most of the images using data recovery software, but a few were lost.”

PopPhoto - 12/14/2006 - has reviewed the 7 megapixel Samsung NV3 and they write - “Overall, the NV3 is a pleasing camera for casual snapshooters and multi-function gadget types. If having a wad of gizmos in one compact unit is your thing, then the NV3 may well be the answer to your wishes. It’s a shame though that high quality imaging has taken a back seat to gizmos in this model, and Samsung would do well to review this. If you raised the quality of the lens and image processing and added to the price, it would still be a great deal for a camera with this build quality and feature set at $100 more.”

PCW - 12/7/2006 - has reviewed the 7 megapixel Samsung NV3 and they write - “Aside from these niggles, the NV3 is a very stylish, feature-rich camera that’s capable of taking good pictures. The mp3 and PMP functions, while genuinely usable, are no match for a dedicated device, but at this price you’d be foolish to complain.”

Digicamreview - 11/12/2006 - has reviewed the 7 megapixel Samsung NV3 and they write - “Point and shoot holiday shooters will be pleased by the camera’s punchy colours, but people who put image quality above everything else may be disappointed by the camera’s slightly soft images and lack of detail. Parents will be happy that there children can be entertained on long journeys with the MP3 player or the video player. Overall the Samsung NV3 (like the Digimax i6 before it) is a great ultra compact digital camera. It provides generally good image quality with very richly saturated colours, has a great screen, and a built in 3x optical zoom lens. The camera is easy to use and it feels well built. The camera is a very complete package, there really is very little missing from this digital camera, it has an excellent macro mode, an excellent screen, video and audio recording, custom white balance, and built in advanced shake reduction. If you are in the market for an ultra compact digital camera with built in MP3 playback or built in video player then there is very little else to choose from. The digital camera is excellent value for money and definitely recommended.”

Imaging Resource - 11/6/2006 - has reviewed the 7 megapixel Samsung NV3 and they write - “The Samsung NV3’s image and video quality were a disappointment, though. And the proprietary connector on the bottom of the camera made battery charging and AV playback awkward. Same problem transferring images with the USB cable attached to the connector on the bottom.”

ThinkCamera - 10/19/2006 - has reviewed the 7 megapixel Samsung NV3 and they write - “From a multi-function point of view the NV3 performs quite well, the video and music modes working better than other PMPs I’ve seen and the LCD and speakers being up to the job. However as a camera the NV3 is lacking. The sensor seems to be inadequate for a £225 7.2 MP camera these days and the noise reduction techniques may keep some photos from being brilliant. Still, if you were using the whole package of features as intended and you were only going to use the photos for the web then it would be worth a look - especially if style is important.”

T3 - 10/11/2006 - has reviewed the 7 megapixel Samsung NV3 and they write - “Ultimately this can’t match similarly-priced cameras, is laughable compared to even an iPod shuffle when it comes to music playback and lacks the capacity or capability to threaten genuine PMPs. The look and feel of this snapper are pretty good, but its “bonus” features add little.”

Tech Digest - 9/6/2006 - has reviewed the 7 megapixel Samsung NV3 and rate it 3 out of 5 - “This is a really nice compact camera. The number of megapixels means that you can always be sure of getting a high quality picture, and there are enough features to make the most of what you’ve got. Whether it would ever be used as a media player as they intend is up for debate. Personally, I think it’s trying to do everything, and not succeeding in many, and would never replace my other devices with this alone. But if you’re pushed for space, or want to minimise luggage, it might just work.”

Trusted Reviews - 9/6/2006 - has reviewed the 7 megapixel Samsung NV3 and they write - “The The Samsung NV3 is an odd little camera, but a good one. It is beautifully designed, extremely well made, handles comfortably and performs well photographically, although the “bonus extras” of MP3 and MPEG4 playback, and especially the text viewer, are really nothing special. However, at well under £200 it can afford a few quirks, and it’s certainly pretty enough to get away with it.”

Digital Camera Review - 9/5/2006 - has reviewed the 7 megapixel Samsung NV3 and they write - “The NV3 has the looks to make a fashion statement. Your friends will definitely want to check it out when you pull it out of your pocket. The NV3 takes good pictures, but its main point of difference is the personal media player capabilities. Once you have a high capacity memory card, you can take your mp3s and videos with you. You no longer have to carry your ipod and your camera!

While image quality, in my opinion, is average, the multimedia capabilities of the camera are attractive, so make sure you consider them if you’re considering this camera. The stereo speakers are quite powerful, for being so small, and the included ear buds ensure that you’re all set to listen right out of the box.”

DCResource - 8/24/2006 - has reviewed the 7 megapixel Samsung NV3 and they write - “Camera performance was about average in most respects. The NV3 is ready to start shooting about 1.5 seconds after you hit the power button. Focus speeds were typical for an ultra-compact, with fairly decent low light focusing performance. Shutter lag wasn’t much of a problem, and shot-to-shot speeds were great as long as you’re not using the ASR feature. The NV3’s continuous shooting mode isn’t worth writing home about, though. The frame rate is sluggish (0.9 fps), and the LCD is blacked out while you’re shooting, which makes tracking a moving subject quite difficult. Battery life is a bit below average.”

CNET - 8/22/2006 - reviews the 7.2 megapixel 3x optical zoom Samsung NV3 digital camera and rate it a 7 out of 10 - “With solid images and a decent multimedia feature set, the Samsung NV3 is a very nice Jack-of-all-trades camera. Casual users will probably appreciate having their snapshots, music, and notes all in one iPod-size device. The camera’s awkward movie playback and its lack of playlists prevents it from being a great dedicated media player, but it still offers enough functionality to give you some tunes when you’re not shooting.”

Computer Active - 8/14/2006 - has reviewed the 7.2 megapixel 3x optical zoom Samsung NV3 digital camera and rate it a 3 out of 5 - “Samsung appears to have over-egged the pudding. It may be feature packed, but the wealth of options can’t fully disguise the fact that the Samsung NV3’s combo approach falls short of the results provided by separate, dedicated devices.”

Pocket-lint - 8/9/2006 - has reviewed the 7.2 megapixel 3x optical zoom Samsung NV3 digital camera and rate it a 9 out of 10 - “The NV3 is a killer camera that oozes style and performance. The 7 megapixel resolution is a bit of an overkill in our mind, however the image quality is second to none. We love it.”

Samsung NV3 Initial Press Release

New York, NY - Samsung Camera announces the introduction of NV3, one of three new camera models that comprise the revolutionary new NV series of digital still cameras featuring sleek, stylish designs and high technology. The NV3 is a 7-megapixel digital still camera that features Samsung’s exclusive Digimax Converter software to play movies and MP3 files. The ground-breaking NV3 is a state-of-the-art digital still camera featuring revolutionary SHD optics with the added convenience of a Personal Media Player that allows users to enjoy video content and their favorite music on-the-go.

Samsung’s new NV Series of digital still cameras are immediately recognizable by their highly attractive and sleek bodies in brushed black, stainless steel and a trademark Samsung blue ring located around the lens of each model. This premium line was developed after two years of extensive market research, and as with the NV3, feature the latest in Samsung digital imaging technology as well as personal media player functions.

“The NV3 is the epitome of the New Vision Samsung has set out to achieve with NV series,” says Stewart Henderson, National Marketing Manager at Samsung Opto-Electronics. “It combines cutting-edge technology with a bold, stylish design and an easy-to-use interface to create a truly unique and desirable product for today’s consumer.”

At the heart of the NV3 is a 7-megapixel digital still camera measuring a mere 3.7″ x 2.2″ x 0.7″ with a 2.5-inch, high resolution LCD display. For outstanding image quality, the NV3 integrates a 3x optical zoom (equivalent to 38-114 mm in 35 mm format) capability with Samsung’s exclusive SHD lens technology.

The NV3 is equipped with Samsung’s state-of-the-art Advanced Shake Reduction (ASR) technology to combat hand shake and ensure crystal-clear images. The ASR function provides enhanced image clarity by electronically compensating for excess hand shake and improving color in environments lacking sufficient lighting where the use of the flash is not desirable. With the touch of a button, the unique technology uses proprietary algorithms to interpret sharpness and color information to deliver an image that looks like it has been taken with the flash. As the flash is disabled, side effects, such as red eye, are prevented.

For entertainment on-the-go, users simply use the included Digimax Converter software to easily convert their favorite MP3 files or watch their favorite video content on the large, 2.5-inch color display. The user-friendly software can seamlessly convert MPEG, AVI, MOV, WMV and ASF files for viewing on the NV3. For music on-the-go, the software can also convert MP3 and WAV audio files in several simple steps. The innovative software also allows users to view subtitles, adjust the screen size and crop and stretch the image to fit the screen as desired. Users can listen to their entertainment using the included ear buds or on the dual stereo speakers discreetly located on the camera, and for a seamless experience, even listen to their music while taking photos.

In addition to playing video, the NV3 can also make movies using MPEG-4, the high-compression, high?quality video format. The NV3 can record in VGA (640×480) at 30fps, for smoother video and a bigger view of the movie on LCD and TV screens. For steady videos, the NV3 includes a movie stabilizer function that automatically detects and corrects minor lateral and vertical camera movement. For additional control the continuous video recording function allows the user to pause and resume video recording at any time, while the built-in movie editing function allows users to edit video in-camera. The NV3 features several special effects functions for creative control in-camera, such as Color Effect, Highlight, Photo Frame, Negative and Composite Shot. Color effects include B/W, sepia, blue, green and red.

For crystal-clear images, under various shooting conditions, the NV3 features 11 scene modes including Night, Portrait, Children, Landscape, Close-up, Sunset, Backlight, Fireworks, Beach & Snow and Text Recognition. Text Recognition, a feature unique to Samsung digital still cameras, -more-

allows users to shoot documents such as books, papers and magazines and then extract text from the image taken using the bundled “Digimax Reader” text recognition software.

To ensure the clarity of images regardless of shooting range, the Auto Macro function automatically adjusts shooting distance and focus. By using the macro button, users can set the camera to automatically adjust distance and focus from between 5cm to infinity. The NV3 also includes a super macro mode that enables subjects to be photographed up to as close as 1 cm.

All Samsung digital still cameras feature a built-in image editing function allowing users to edit a variety of images without the use of a PC. The Trimming function can be used to cut an undesired part of an image and save only the required part. When short of memory, shooters can use the Resizing function to recover some of the memory space, by resizing and saving images in a smaller size. The Rotating function allows users to rotate an image in the desired direction and save it.

The NV3 features 16 MB of internal memory and comes bundled with ear buds and a powerful lithium ion battery.

The Samsung NV3 has an MSRP of $349.99 and will be available in Fall of 2006.

  1. This little camera is the best. Because of its dimunitive size it is reasonable to give up something in lens quality. The loss is made up with the MP 3 capability. I carry it on my hip in a holster… like a gun. Everything is “on limit” each day as I prepare to write my blog. Nothing compares to this NV3… nothing. Learning to use it takes time…so what.Interested in a nice little camera…Give the Samsung NV 3 a shot!
