Samsung NV10 Press Release

CNET – 01 November’07 – reviews the Samsung NV10 and did not appreciate the odd interface and poor performance. Here’s and excerpt from their review -
“Though its Smart Touch interface takes some getting used to, the Samsung NV10 is a nice compact camera. Its responsive shutter, manual controls, and attractive images make it a fine choice for casual photographers who want a lot of options without a lot of bulk. If you’re willing to spend a bit more, though, consider instead the Samsung NV11. The NV10’s bigger, slightly heavier brother boasts a more powerful zoom and both aperture- and shutter-priority modes, two much appreciated improvements over this model.”
Cameras.co.uk – 31 October’07 – reviews the Samsung NV10 and was not impressed by the low picture quality. Here’s and excerpt from their review verdict -
“According to the Samsung website the Digimax NV10 has won a number of awards. This leaves me scratching my head as I found it difficult to take a decent photo with out high levels of noise. Aside from this problem it is a decent enough camera, but I cannot recommend it owing to the poor quality of test photos I managed to take.”
Megapixel – 5/3/2007 – reviews the 7.2 megapixel Samsung NV7 OPS and writes, “Negatives: Manipulating camera takes practice – Sensitive to noise as of 100 ISO – Image processing too strong for sharpness – Underpowered flash – Power consumption – Positives: Good image quality for printing – Good light metering – Well saturated colours that are suited to printing – Full Manual shooting mode – No optical distortion – Unusual and original interface – Excellent finishing.”
GearDigest – 3/27/2007 – reviews the 10.1 megapixel Samsung NV10 and writes, “There’s a lot to recommend the Samsung NV10. A 10 megapixel camera in a sleek compact form factor for $350 (list) represents a fairly good value. The innovative user interface is fairly intuitive, but the user manual leaves a lot to be desired. A novice photographer will experience a steeper learning curve due to skimpy documentation, and more experienced photographers may want a camera that has shutter and aperture priority modes as well as a manual focus, features all missing in the NV10. Of course pricing on the web varies greatly, but for approximately the same amount of money, I’d prefer the HP Photosmart R967.”
Ephotozine – 3/18/2007 – reviews the 10.1 megapixel Samsung NV10 and writes, “With a colossal 10Mp resolution, there’s the temptation to take this camera into the countryside for some landscape work, but really that isn’t what the camera, or most other compacts, is for. You really do not need that high a resolution for people and holiday shots which is what this will see the most use doing. The drawback of that high res is that there is noise at every ISO setting, including 100, though there it’s the shadow areas. There’s also a lack of fine detail in the mid to background areas as the lens can’t really resolve it that well. For portraits, which is where the NV10 really is aimed, it’s fine. Hair is rendered well, and ski tones, though veering on the lively side, at least make people look healthy. The controls, design and build quality are the other selling points, and these are all very good. You’ll be shocked at how high quality the body is for the money being asked. This really does lift the camera above what is otherwise an entirely average performance.”
XYZComputing – 3/3/2007 – has reviewed the 10.1 megapixel Samsung NV10 and writes, “Overall Samsung’s NV10 ended up being one of the best point-and-shoots I have used in a long time. It follows in the tradition of Canon Powershots, like the SD630, in that it combines style, good shooting, with a small size and a large LCD to make for an overall attractive package. The camera has its faults and still has some areas where is lags behind the competition, but is a great offering and will be a smart purchase for lots of consumers. The facts that it takes a 10 megapixel image and has a 3x zoom despite is size are also great selling points. The other cameras in the NV line, like NV7 and NV5, might also be worth checking out, and each has its own strengths.

This camera is exactly what Samsung needed to produce in order to turn some heads and let people know that Samsung is capable of making a solid camera. In the end the one thing that may be the biggest hurdle to the camera is that it’s from Samsung, not one of its Japanese competitors who are better known for their cameras. If people can get over the brand (which should not be hard given Samsung’s reputation) I think most will be extremely pleased with this camera, especially as the price drops from the original MSRP. ”
PCMag – 1/12/2007 – has reviewed the 10.1 megapixel Samsung NV10 and is impressed with its Smart Touch technology. They continue to write – “Samsung’s NV line of ultracompacts offers a new navigation system that’s intuitive and inventive, but a few performance issues keep these cameras from greatness.”
PhotographyReview – 12/20/2006 – has reviewed the 10.1 megapixel Samsung NV10 and writes – “The Samsung NV10 is a nice, small digital camera that feels good in the hand. It’s well built and the unique ‘ Smart Touch’ navigation make this 10-megapixel camera a worthy alternative to the Casio Exilims and Canon Elph digital cameras that dominate the market. I would prefer more aperture adjustment options as well as not needing special software to watch movies captured with the NV10. However I can still recommend the Samsung NV10 as a solid, fun point-and-shoot digital camera.”
PCWorld – 10/25/2006 – has reviewed the 10.1 megapixel Samsung NV10 and writes – “Considering that its menus are cumbersome to use and its image quality is average, the NV10 is difficult to recommend when some less expensive models offer higher image quality and better usability.”
DCResource – 10/20/2006 – has reviewed the 10.1 megapixel Samsung NV10 and writes – “While it’s an interesting camera with some nice features, ultimately I was left feeling a bit cold by the Samsung NV10. I like its build quality and some of its features, but its photo quality is lacking compared to other cameras in its class, and that’s why you buy a digital camera in the first place, right? The bottom line here is that there are better cameras for your money out there, and I’ve listed some of them below.”
DPReview – 10/18/2006 – has reviewed the 10.1 megapixel Samsung NV10 and writes – “Ultimately then, this is a very well priced, very well specified and well-designed camera that offers a real alternative to the Casio Exilims and Canon Elphs that dominate the ultra-slim sector. It’s not the most compact camera on the market, but it is very slim and pocketable, and it packs a weighty punch. If you find the output to your taste there are few reasons not to consider it, nor for me to recommend it.”
HardwareZone – 9/21/2006 – has reviewed the 10.1 megapixel Samsung NV10 and rates it 8 out of 10. They continue to write – “Overall, the NV10 has a very attention grabbing retro design and we are quite satisfied with the camera’s ergonomics pertaining to the right hand grip design. It is a lovely camera that performs well over our expectations considering that Samsung does not have a long history at making cameras.”
TrustedReviews – 9/1/2006 – has reviewed the 10.1 megapixel Samsung NV10 and rates it 8 out of 10. They continue to write – “Another superb new camera from the most improved camera company in the business. The NV10 combines sleek style, excellent build quality, good performance and innovative design with good photographic results. It is certainly among the best of the 10-megapixel compacts, and good value for money too.”
About.com 9/18/2006 – has reviewed the 10.1 megapixel Samsung NV10 and rates it 4.5 out of 5. They continue to write – “Easily one of the coolest features of the camera is the LCD’s touch screen menu. This is one of the first cameras to feature this handy menu interface.”
Pocket-lint – 8/31/2006 – has reviewed the 10.1 megapixel Samsung NV10 and rates it 5 out of 10. They continue to write – “Manufactures are keen to point out 10 megapixels will give you “plenty of creativity when it comes to cropping”. However so far we’ve yet to see a compact digital camera with 10 megapixels that produces good results without any noise and the Samsung NV10 isn’t the one to break the mould.

Nice looking, this camera falls down when it comes to taking pictures and for that reason we can’t recommend it.”
