Digital Camera Review

ConsumersElectronicNet - 29 November’07 - reviews the Samsung L77 and liked the camera becasue it is convenient to shoot with. Just big enough to sip into your pocket and a great zoom. Here’s an excerpt from their review -
“I do have to point out that the camera is a bit sluggish, and isn’t the best for shooting people in group shots because there is an annoying lag from when you press the button to when the camera fires the shot. This is especially acute in low light situations with the flash.”

WhatDigitalCamera - 24 November’07 - reviews the Samsung L77 and indicates the usability is aimed at people who ant a cool looking camera and don’t really care about picture quality. Here’s their verdict -
“Shot-to-shot speed and start-up times are both prompt, and the reviewing of images is quick. Images are swamped with fringing, though, with unseemly purple highlights featuring in abundance. Overall, a design-driven compact with limited usability and poor image quality.”

PCWorld - 23 November’07 - reviews the Samsung L77. Here’s their verdict -
“Pros: 7x zoom lens Cons: Limited advanced features”

CNET - 08 October’07 - reviews the Samsung L77 and feels it has sluggish operation and exhibits some fringing in the highlights. Here’s the official verdict -
“f you want a simple, pocket-friendly point-and-shoot camera with a strong zoom, give the Samsung L77 a try. With its slim body, relatively powerful lens, and solid image quality, the Samsung L77 should appeal to snapshooters. Its performance is sluggish, though, and its dearth of manual controls will turn off more advanced photographers.”

T3 reviews the Samsung L77 and writes;
“Photos, to be fair, are not outstanding, with highlights burning out in bright conditions, while the anti-shake is slow, and no match for an optical system.

Having got that off our chests, we have to accept that the L77 still offers much more than the average compact and looks unfeasibly stylish to boot. If you like snapping things far away, its zoom will, quite literally, shake your room.”

ePhotozine reviews the Samsung L77 and after examining the photos indicated they have seen better picture quality from less expensive cameras. Everything else about the camera deserves high marks, all except the picture quality. In fact at ISO 50 the camera delivers very nice picture quality but even at ISO 100 loss of detail begins to show up. At anything above ISO 200 things go downhill pretty quickly.

Bottom Line: If it weren’t for the photos quality this would be a really nice digital camera. But after all when a camera fails to deliver picture quality why bother?

Steve’s Digicams reviews the Samsung L77 and thought the camera was well designed but they were disappointed with the auto focus in low light situation. With a fairly fast startup and smooth operation they rated the shooting performance as very good. Image quality was classified as ‘ok’ with above average barrel distortion and chromatic aberrations.

Bottom Line: Nice camera, particularly the internal 7x zoom (no zoom lens protruding out the front of the camera). Nothing too wrong with image quality and no real complaints about the shooting performance. As mentioned earlier the real down side to the L77 was the auto focus in low light.

Digital Camera Review - 6/30/2007 - reviews the http://www.digitalcamerareview.com/default.asp?newsID=3114 and writes, “While having a 7x optical zoom in such a slim and compact camera is definitely an awesome feature to have, the L77’s image capturing capabilities are not good enough for me to recommend. Now, that’s not to say that there isn’t a buyer for this camera out there. The camera does have decent performance (it operates quickly) and it looks really nice. The 7x optical zoom does work well, and it does work during movie capture, which is a nice to have. The bottom line, however, is that image quality is not that great. I do strongly recommend that you take a look at the sample images and decide for yourself. The most direct competitor to the Samsung L77 is the Casio Exilim EX-V7. A slightly larger, but still in the compact category, camera is the 10x optical zoom Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ3.”
