GoodGearGuide – 15 December’07 – reviews the Samsung L730 and appreciates the higher quality video recording. Here’s a summary of their review -
“Not an outstanding camera but its features include face detection and image stabilization. However, the review did uncover some image problems in the form of purple fringing, not a lot, but enough to draw the reviewers attention. Where the camera fell to it knees was its white balance which was just plain not right. For example all the indoor shots taken under incandescent lighting had a warm color cast. Digital noise was managable at ISO 100 and 200 but at 400 photos appeared blotchy, not good sign…”

Press Release

11 July 2007 – Samsung Cameras leaders in digital imaging and innovation is pleased to announce the release of the 7 mega pixel L730 and the 8 mega pixel L830. These two easy to use digital compact cameras are the next generation models of Samsung’s popular L series cameras. Both cameras combine Samsung’s advanced image processing technology and Samsung’s Intelligent Face Recognition Technology, encased in a compact aluminium body.

Samsung’s Intelligent Face Recognition Technology, detects the subject’s face and automatically adjusts auto focus and auto exposure to ensure better composition and image quality in portraits. The AF function instantaneously recognises the faces of subjects and accurately focuses on them, then the AE function takes over, setting the appropriate exposure to ensure the highest image quality.

Both models also feature 3x optical zoom, a bright 2.5” LCD display and a suite of advanced video and editing features.

Other features include:
Movie mode lets users capture video, with or without audio, in one of four resolutions, from 320×240 to 800×592
Shutter speeds of up to 1/1,500 sec for fast moving subjects
An ISO equivalent of 1600 for better pictures in low light
Various scene modes, continuous shooting and exposure bracketing to help get the best shots
16 megabytes of internal memory, and both models accept Secure Digital (SD) flash memory cards up to 4 gigabytes
Samsung’s Digimax Master software (compatible with Windows 98/2000/ME/XP and Macintosh OS X 9.2 through 10.4) is also included in the box of both models enabling beginners to edit and manage their pictures as soon as they start using the camera

I love this camera to bits! Glad I bought it.

It makes excellent foto’s, incredibly sharp. It works excellent with little to no light and I haven’t had one red eye yet!
Bought this camera in the red version. =]

This camera is horrible it either over exposes or under exposes never takes a good shot. You would think that Auto mode ciould actually take a photo but no.

Do NOT reccommend this camera at all

This camera takes pretty good photos, but I don’t recommend it to anyone intends to move it or use it!!!!

The slightest bump and it freezes.
When I first got it, it froze every time I tried to use it.
The video is recorded in .AVI and to change it to anything else you need a video converting program on your computer.

NOT RECOMMENDED FOR TEENAGERS!!!

Bought this as a gift for my European relatives. Can this camera charge in Europe with just a plug adaptor? Is it universal 110-220 volt charger connection? I don’t want to open the package to find out.
It should say on the plug itself.
Can someone check this for me?

Thank You

I’ve missed many special moments because this camera is frozen or the white balance is just wrong. The portrait setting often lets me down by over-exposing and the flash is way too bright, making the picture too bright and blotchy.
