Cameras.co.uk - 27 March’08 - reviews the Ricoh Caplio R7 and really liked the colors it produced. Here’s a summary of their review -
“It has a fairly intuitive menu system that’s well laid out and easy to follow. Shutter lag times on this camera were nothing short of impressive taking five photos in only 5.35 seconds. Its exposure system could handle most light situations and delivered consistent image colors and detail.”
ePhotozine - 11 February’08 - reviews the Ricoh Caplio R7 and thinks this is one noisy camera. Here’s a summary of their review -
“Soft images combined with above average noise makes this a poor offering from Ricoh. Considering this camera comes from the same folks that make the GR Digital and the GX100 it’s just a plain disappointment. The cameras white balance needs a complete overhaul. Even in a series of test images colors changed from shot tot shot.”
PhotographyBlog - 12 November’07 - reviews the Ricoh Caplio R7 and feels it’s not necessary to upgrade from the R6. Here’s an excerpt from their review conclusion -
“The R7 retains the same usable ISO range of 64-400, with only the fastest setting of ISO 1600 being a complete non-starter. Chromatic aberrations and purple fringing isn’t too obvious, but there is some softness in the corners when using the wide-angle focal lengths - forgivable given the versatile range that the 7x lens offers.”
TrustedReviews - 30 October’07 - reviews the Ricoh Caplio R7 and was impressed with the speed of the autofocus system. Here’s an excerpt from their review verdict -
“Once again Ricoh demonstrates that in terms of technical ability and value for money, its cameras are among the best on the market. The Caplio R7 is an outstandingly versatile pocket compact with an unmatched list of features. It is stylish, well made, has blindingly fast performance and excellent picture quality, at a price that beats its few competitors. If it doesn’t sell like hot cakes this Christmas then Ricoh needs to fire its advertising agency.”
ThinkCamera - 29 October’07 - reviews the Ricoh Caplio R7 and notes this camera starts up fast and is an all around fast performer shot to shot. Here’s an excerpt from their review -
“Still, minor issues aside, Ricoh’s R7 is yet another solid device from a growing stable of top-notch cameras. If you are in the market for a reliable, fast compact, that comes with the bonus of a limited-space defying zoom lens that is capable of getting you right up to the action without weighing you down, then the Ricoh Caplio R7 is well worth checking out.”
CNET.co.uk - 26 October’07 - reviews the Ricoh Caplio R7 and that the only thing that let them down was the LCD screen quality. Here’s an excerpt from their review -
“the Ricoh Caplio R7 is an excellent compact that deserves a wider audience. The Canon Digital IXUS 860 IS may have sewn up the 8-megapixel, big screen and image stabilization market, but for us, the R7’s innovative mini joystick and feature set give it the edge. If it wasn’t for the poor quality screen, the R7 would be one of our favorite compacts.”
ComputerActive - 25 October’07 - reviews the Ricoh Caplio R7 and suggests it’s not the easiest camera to use. Here’s an excerpt from their review -
“Outdoor pictures were sharp, well-balanced and extremely detailed at the highest resolution setting. The difference in the quality of the results obtained could be reduced with some tweaking of the advanced settings, but we were unimpressed that the camera’s auto mode didn’t address this. Its erratic performance in different lighting conditions makes it hard to recommend as a reliable point-and-shoot camera, which is what it is intended to be.”
