DevHardware – 11 March’08 – reviews the Pentax Optio S10 and claims the two top assets of this camera are picture quality and performance. Review summary follows -
“It’s too bad that for such a nice camera Pentax chose to not include optical image stabilization. Another interesting choice Pentax made was to put the USB connection inside the battery/SD card compartment, kind of inconvenient. One of the cool things about the camera is the “Green” button which when pressed turns the camera into a fully automatic shooting machine.”
GoodGearGuide – 25 February’08 – reviews the Pentax Optio S10 and notes it produces sharp looking pictures with good color. Here’s a summary of their review -
“Here’s a great camera that’s compact but it does have a tendency to slow down in low light. If you’re a setting tinkerer this camera will probably disappoint you since the only things you can change are the ISO and white balance. Even though it shows a little lens distortion and purple fringing it’s still a small and easy to operate camera that makes nice pictures.”
RegHardware – 06 February’08 – reviews the Pentax Optio S10 and really liked the manual focus. Here’s a summary of their review -
“Here’s a camera capable of some really nice results but be prepared to work a little harder than required on most point-and-shoot cameras. Most cameras work predictably well in auto mode however with the S10 to get the same results you’ll need to drop out of auto mode and do a fair amount of tweaking. One grip was the sports mode which theoretically helps stop fast moving subject but it does not seem to do the job on this camera.”
Digital Camera Review – 10 December’07 – reviews the Pentax Optio S10 and notes it’s a camera that not only looks good it operates really well too. Here’s an excerpt from the review conclusion -
“The Pentax Optio S10 is a solid little camera in nice package. It operates quickly and is nice to use, except that the tiny control buttons may not appeal to some. The camera does provide a whopping 10 megapixel resolution and the noise performance is still good, probably thanks to the slightly larger-than-usual 1/1.8-inch sensor. The 2.5 inch LCD has 232K pixels of resolution, giving the view of your shots a nice smooth look. It would have been nice to have image stabilization or a longer zoom, but you’d probably sacrifice the compact size of the camera to do so. Image quality was good, with detailed, contrasty shots and accurate color reproduction.”
CNET – 17 November’07 – reviews the Pentax Optio S10 and comments that for a budget camera it delivers remarkably crisp and vivid photos. Here’s an excerpt from the review -
“Unlike many budget models we’ve seen lately, such as the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T2, Pentax strikes the right balance between noise suppression and sharpness in the S10. It produces nicely sharp photos with relatively little image noise, and which remain usable up to and including ISO 400–about a stop beyond the usual. It displays very good color, with generally neutral-to-cool white balance, even exposures and a broad dynamic range.”
Steves-Digicams – 06 November’07 – reviews the Pentax Optio S10 and notes that as for image quality there was a little softness at the edges particularly when viewing pictures at 100%. Here’s an excerpt from the review conclusion -
“As the new leader in the Optio “S” line, the S10 has an upgraded image processor, and a noticeable improvement in performance from previous models. Combined with the continued overall good image quality, makes this a very good choice in the “ultra-compact” market. The only down side is it can be a little slow focusing so it is not recommended for shooting fast moving actions or subjects.”
ePhotozine – 05 November’07 – reviews the Pentax Optio S10 and comments that if you’re looking for lots of resolution but not much else this might be your choice. Here’s an excerpt from the review verdict -
“I can understand the need to fit a large resolution chip into a camera as that is what consumers want at the moment, but I fail to understand is why the camera will only then have a small zoom or few features to entice. Unfortunately that is how the Optio S10 has panned out and therefore fails to deliver in key areas.”
TrustedReviews – 02 November’07 – reviews the Pentax Optio S10 and the camera has not only increased in performance its overall picture quality has also improved. Here’s the review verdict -
“The latest in a successful series of ultra-compact cameras, the Pentax Optio S10 combines excellent build quality, simplicity of design and good all-round performance with a user-friendly ease of use. It compares well with other quality compacts from rival manufacturers, and its very good low-light performance makes it especially useful for social snapshot photography. If you’re looking for a camera to record the office Christmas party it should definitely be on your shortlist.”
