RegHardware – 16 March’08 – reviews the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX33 and thinks it looks good and delivers nice looking photos. Here’s a summary of their review -
“This camera is not for the person who likes to tweak, it is pretty much a plain Jane digital camera. What’s really cool about the FX33 is the 28mm lens because it lets you take some great looking landscape pictures. Image quality had vibrant colors and there was good detail in shadow and highlight areas. Operationally the camera was responsive and accurate and the reviewer noted how quick the face recognition system operated.”
ThinkCamera – 18 February’08 – reviews the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX33 and reports if you routinely shoot high ISO shots this is not your camera. Here’s a summary of their review -
“At lower ISO this camera produces great well saturated photographs. It’s a speedy and efficient camera that should rate high on everyones must take a look at list. One of the main drawing points to this camera is the Leica lens which pulls off consistently good images even in situation that would fool other cameras in this class.”
Cameras.co.uk – 28 November’07 – reviews the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX33 and noted they usually like the Panasonic cameras but not this one. Here’s an excerpt from their review verdict -
“Although I like the look and set up the camera has, I am a bit disappointed with my test shots. I am a big fan of really sharp photos and although most cameras can always improve in this area I expected more from the Panasonic DMC FX33″
CameraLabs – 05 November’07 – reviews the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX33 and comments the only real drawback to the camera is a lack of manual control. Here’s an excerpt from their review verdict -
“If you’re not bothered about full manual control and can avoid higher sensitivities – or pixel-peeping – then the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX33 is a great compact camera. It’s smaller than most of the competition, offers a stabilized lens with 28mm wide angle coverage, and some of the best automatic features around. This combination edges the FX33 beyond its predecessor and into our Highly Recommended category. The FX33 ain’t perfect, but most people would be very happy with it.”
CNET.co.uk – 05 October’07 – reviews the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX33 and feels the image quality is good but not great. Here’s their bottom line;
“The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX33 is a decently-specced camera with an excellent lens, and a number of well-implemented features. The inclusion of optical image stabilization and a wide angle lens in such a compact package is extremely impressive, and picture quality is solid enough not to ruin the party.”
GoodGearGuide – 19 September’07 – reviews the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX33 and writes;
“color reproduction was decent, even with manually calibrated white balance some colors such as reds and blues came out a little darker than anticipated. Meanwhile in our noise tests, the unit disappointed a little, with our shots coming out quite grainy in places. Running at ISO 100 Imatest gave the FX33 a score of 0.91 per cent for noise which is above many competing models.”
ePhotozine tests the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX33 and writes;
“While it can feel a little limited compared to the more powerful sibling, the FX100, the FX33 is a perfectly capable little camera. It’s well built and can happily tumble around the bottom of a bag before being called upon to grab a holiday or family member shot. It has a good ISO range though ISO 1250 and 1600 are only usable either very small in colour, or in black and white. It might not deliver outstanding clarity and detail, but the images are certainly well saturated and will draw no complaints in this market sector. The FX33 also has that burst mode performance party trick as well. The build quality, decent overall performance and the 28mm wide angle lens, combined with the general ease of use make it an ideal compact to carry around on holiday or in the bottom of a bag, waiting to be called upon for family or pet shots.”
TrustedReviews tests the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX33 and writes;
“Panasonic keeps chipping away at Canon’s position in the premium ultra-compact market, and with the wide-angle Lumix DMC-FX33 it has a camera that can take on the best of the IXUS range. It has style, elegance, build quality, performance and simplicity of operation, and while it is slightly lacking in picture quality it will seldom disappoint, producing good pictures in almost any situation.”
CNET Asia has reviewed the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX33 and liked the LCD mode a lot. In LCD mode the user can select from three levels of brightness the highest of which is so bright you can hold the camera over head and still see the LCD. The camera is one of the slowest to power on but shot-to-shot it is one of the speediest (0.54 second without flash, 2.17 seconds with flash). Image quality was good for this level of camera with little digital noise at low ISO and noise increasing as ISO levels raise.
Bottom Line: This camera scored high marks primarily due to its design and the intelligent auto mode.

I upgraded from a canon ixus400 based on several reviews. I had not noted the cameras.co.uk review about sharpness as i feel this is only as good as my old canon. I am quite disappointed with my results so far – I have tried most modes and different settings and lighting conditions. If anyone has any suggestions or reasons for lack of sharpness I would like to hear from them. Now wishing I had stuck with the Canon range, probably the 850 IS
