Outdoor Portraits Look Better Through Rose Colored Glasses
Outdoor Portraits Look Better Through Rose Colored Glasses: If your outdoor shots of people have a pasty or cool feel to them you can probably blame your camera’s default white balance setting. Now most will agree this setting works just fine for everyday shots. However, when you’re shooting a close-up portrait outdoors you and your subject will undoubtedly like the image MUCH better if you warm it up a bit.
Rule of thumb:
When shooting outdoor portraits and sunny landscapes, adjust your white balance from auto to cloudy. Yes, cloudy. Why? Doing so is like putting a mild warming filter on your camera. It increases the reds and yellows resulting in richer, warmer pictures.
Run a test if you’re not convinced!
Fire off a couple of shots outdoors with your white balance on auto, then shoot the same scene again with the setting on cloudy. Take a look at the resulting images and we think you’ll agree.
