Imaging Resource - 3/30/2007 - has reviewed the 10 megapixel Olympus Stylus 1000 digital camera and writes, “It can be hard to see the LCD outdoors and there’s no autofocus assist lamp to help find focus in dark scenes. Digital image stabilization was a disappointment, not really up to the job. And some of our shots tended to be oversaturated with blown out highlights, not unusual in a digicam. Minor quibbles, taken together. However, we were disappointed with the printed results from the Stylus 1000, which were more in line with a 6 megapixel camera.”
Steve’s Digicams - 3/20/2007 - has reviewed the 10 megapixel Olympus Stylus 1000 digital camera and writes, “The weather-resistant Stylus 1000 has great image quality in good light, is easy to hold, and has many user-friendly exposure modes but it’s lacking in performance and has image noise issues in low light. With a MSRP of $399 it falls short of our expectations.”
PCWorld - 3/16/2007 - has reviewed the 10 megapixel Olympus Stylus 1000 digital camera and writes, “Overall, the Stylus is a good camera, especially if you love to take pictures in inclement conditions. Ironically, the camera may be hardest to use in clear weather.”
Cameras.co.uk - 1/31/2007 - has a video guide to the 10 megapixel Olympus Stylus 1000 digital camera and they write, “On the whole the camera is easy enough to use. I find the menu system a bit messy as it is divided into a number of smaller sections. I think it is easier when everything is in one place and it is just a case of scrolling through to find the item you need to change. Even so it should not be too hard to find what you are looking for.”
Pocket-lint - 12/30/2006 - has reviewed the 10 megapixel Olympus Stylus 1000 digital camera and here’s the conclusion - “This is a camera that has an Achilles heel, one it has in common with almost all other 10-megapixel compacts. It is the sensor itself, which is just too small for the number of pixel it contains, cramming so many in means problems with noise, fringing and detail loss. Less is so much more (as evidenced by the recently reviewed Mju 725) in terms of detail and reduced noise problems.”
TrustedReview - 12/8/2006 - has reviewed the 10 megapixel Olympus Stylus 1000 digital camera and here’s the conclusion - “The Olympus mju 1000 is a camera with some very good points offset by some rather bad ones. It is about average for 10MP compacts in terms of picture quality, with good colour and exposure but poor noise control and some optical problems. Build quality, weatherproof durability, performance and ease of use are all good, but let down by poor low light focusing. The 6400 ISO setting is pretty much useless, but the Perfect Fix feature is very handy. It’s worth looking at if you need splash resistance, but there are better high-end compacts on the market.”
Cameras.co.uk - 12/4/2006 - has reviewed the 10 megapixel Olympus Stylus 1000 digital camera and here’s the conclusion - “The Olympus MJU 1000 is another camera in the MJU range that comes up short when it comes to picture quality. This is such a shame as this is one of the few weatherproof digital cameras around. With ten megapixels and being small enough to slip into a pocket the specification is a winner.”
DigitalCameraReview - 11/28/2006 - has reviewed the 10 megapixel Olympus Stylus 1000 digital camera and here’s the conclusion - “The speed of the camera was pretty average. Personally, I don’t really worry too much about start-up time, but it was around 2 seconds. Shot to shot time without flash was about 2 seconds. If you turn on the flash, you’ll have to wait a couple more seconds between shots for the flash to charge. Shutter lag was quick enough to capture the moment, but only if you achieve a focus lock first. Without a partial press first, shutter lag is around 0.6 to 0.8 seconds or so.”
CNET - 11/20/2006 - has reviewed the 10 megapixel Olympus Stylus 1000 digital camera and here’s the conclusion - “The good: Decent image quality at low sensitivity; helpful low-light features. The bad: Noisy at high sensitivity; distinct purple fringing; sluggish; burst and high-ISO modes only shoot at half-resolution or lower. The bottom line: This small 10-megapixel shooter can produce great shots if the scene is well lit, but watch out for noise at about ISO 200.”
DigitalCameraInfo - 11/16/2006 - has reviewed the 10 megapixel Olympus Stylus 1000 digital camera and here’s the conclusion - “As the new king of the Stylus hill, the Olympus Stylus 1000 will get lots of attention. The compact digital camera does have 10 megapixels, a 3x optical zoom lens, and a Bright Capture 2.5-inch LCD screen. The LCD has great resolution, the lens has a standard range, and the resolution sounds better than it really is. This model may have 10 megapixels, but it can really only be accessed in optimal lighting and without using many other features. If you want the high resolution, you can’t boost the ISO, use some of the scene modes, or activate the burst mode. Olympus released this model at a retail price of $399, which is too much for a camera that can’t access its full resolution much of the time.”
Olympus Stylus 1000 Initial Press Release
London, 23 August 2006 – With the introduction of the Olympus µ (mju) 1000, even the most demanding of photographers will be delighted to take pictures packed with 10.0 million pixels worth of detail, using a camera they can simply slip into their pocket. The Olympus µ (mju) range is well known for cameras that push the very boundaries of technical achievement, without skimping on the style. The µ (mju) 1000 retains the hallmark weatherproof* metal body of its predecessors, bringing it bang up to date with a sophisticated silver finish, beneath which lies a 10.0 million pixel CCD and a 3x zoom lens, that together deliver bitingly-sharp results. The µ (mju) 1000 is ideally suited to low light photography thanks to BrightCapture Technology, which boosts its maximum ISO to an amazing 6400**. This brightens pictures, without the need to use flash thereby retaining the atmosphere of the ambient light.
