“The Olympus FE340 is a very much automatic mode camera which can take some decently good shots straight out of the box BUT is not for the impatient or for snapping pets, kids, sports or anything that’s moving quickly.”

“The build quality is good, and the LCD monitor is outstanding, but the styling is awkward and ungainly and the handling could be better. Low-light performance is below average, but the camera is redeemed somewhat by good image quality. Still, there are much better and more capable cameras available for not much more money.”

“The Olympus FE-340 is pocketable and user friendly, and boasts a very nice selection of preset scene modes, auto modes and useful in-camera guides and correction tools. It’s an excellent choice for novices who want to learn slowly, and for anyone who takes primarily portraits. Its 8.0-megapixel CCD captures fairly high resolution images, with good overall detail, though finer details are a bit on the soft side.”

However, the average image quality and smeared flash photos make this camera fall short of perfection. There are a lot of good things about the camera – easy-to-use interface, stylish build, great colors, and a good lens with a little more range than is the norm at this price point. Unfortunately, you’ll have to accept the good with the bad, which means soft details, aggressive NR in high-ISO performance, and average battery life.”

“It offers some very nice features and innovative shooting modes such as “Smile Shot,” along with descent all around quality images. However, the performance, 10 second max VGA (30fps) movie mode and lack of continuous capture features are disappointing. With an MSRP of US$200, this is not a bad camera for someone that takes the occasional pictures at family gatherings or on vacations.”

Actual Owner Feedback
“Someone else mentioned that photos come out pale, I agree, the general color quality is not too good, actually it is poor, not at all what Olympus usually does.”

“The two features that caused me to return the camera are: #1) the telephoto control is awkward, a pin head sized ball on the front of the camera. I don’t know why Olympus decided to get away from the eminently sensible toggle switch on the back which the right thumb could toggle while holding the camera steady with two hands. #2) was the killer though. Whenever the camera was turned off, when you turn it back on it resets itself to the AUTO setting. It didn’t hold my setting of FLASH OFF. That resulted in an embarrassing moment in a very solemn situation where expressly there was NO FLASH ALLOWED. “

“The pictures are clear and crisp. Images are not blurred and are vry good quality. Took it with me to the opening day of baseball season and I have had numerous folks comment on the quality of pictures this camera took and these comments were from folks that could care less about the game but were more amazed at the quality of the picture.”

“The Olympus FE-340 is a great product. I have never taken better picture with any other camera before. I can shoot from inside the car and half the time the pictures look better than a shot taken while standing. It’s amazing!”
