Review Index – (updated 05 February’09)

DigitalCameraReview
“The S610 offers good image and color quality and a fast AF acquisition time in good light, along with ISO performance on a par with most competitors in the class. This is tempered by shutter lag that is a disappointment”

Neocamera
“The Nikon Coolpix S610 turns in average performance for a modern ultra-compact. As with most recent high-resolution digital cameras, certain aspects can be good but inevitably design trade-offs start showing.”

“I was impressed by the photos I took when the subject was relatively close to the camera, but more distant scenes proved to be more of a problem.”

GoodGearGuide
“Noise was a fairly significant factor at times. ISO 100 and 200 produce clean snaps, but at ISO 400 there is a slight drop in clarity and this continues all the way up to the totally unusable ISO 1600 and ISO 3200.”

Pocket-lint
“Lightening fast start-up belies an otherwise very average overall performance, and so it remains a bit of a mixed bag despite the enhancements. The decent design and build are pluses and so is the image quality which is a big step-up over the S600 but it is not as complete a camera as it should be. “
Rating:

CNET.co.uk
“I especially liked the rear LCD control for making almost every setting easy to find and adjust. For any camera I buy nowadays it must feature controls for setting modes like Vivid, Natural, Muted, and Olympus throws in a very nicely done Portrait mode.”

The camera has a HUGE LACD screen, which was great for veiwing pictures, but i was very dissapointed by the size of the supposedly compact camera. My first impression was that the camera was “fat”. On the positive side, the camera took great pictures & was easy to set up.
