Wow! Nikon’s D800 has more resolution than any 35mm-SLR size cameras on the market which is staggering.

Overall Reviewer Rating:
No secret here the D800 is not inexpensive and when you spend this much it easy to be pretty picky about the little things. In this case one of the little things is the pokiness of the auto focus. For the money the expectations is the auto-focus would be faster and more reliable.
“I said that DSLRs are on their way out and Mirrorless cameras will take over in the next few years. I didn’t see myself spending more money on DSLR equipment, but that is before the D800 came out, which is half the price and better for my situation than the D3X!” – Stuck in Customs – Trey Ratcliff

Commentary: Trey is a guy who knows what he’s talking aout when it comes to cameras. The guy travels around the globe subjecting his camera gear to just about every condition one could think of. In the case of the Nikon D800 Trey is impressed. He prefers large images and one of the reasons the D800 is so attractive is the huge number of megapixels it delivers.
The CNET camera reviewers ended up having very little negative dings for the D800. Well perhaps the battery power needed a little boost. But what was really interesting was their classification of “professional nonsports shooting.” We would assume this designation refers to the slow auto-focus.
Nikon’s D800 has set records over at Amazon. Looks as though the D800 is the 2nd highest selling DSLR behind the Canon EOS 550D.
If your end product is destined for larger screens and you shoot in a controlled environment the D800 would appear to be the camera of choice because of the level of detail capture.
With this many pixels the D800 does not have a lot of competitors. Sure the sensor is big but when choosing a camera there are other details to take into consideration such as low light capability. In this particular test the D800 came in third place.
