Imaging Resource – 2/20/2007 – reviews the 12.4 megapixel Nikon D2Xs and writes – “While it represents only a relatively minor upgrade relative to the original D2X, the Nikon D2Xs remains an exceptionally strong competitor in the professional SLR market. It offers exceptional versatility through its dual-resolution, dual-speed design, satisfying the needs of sports shooters and studio photographers alike, in one superbly-constructed body. (If, like us, you’re initially skeptical about the value of the dual-resolution feature of the D2Xs, we highly encourage you to beg, borrow or rent a unit to work with for a day or two: We think you’ll come to love this feature as much as we did, once we got out and shooting with it.) Combine this with Nikon’s unrivalled Advanced Wireless Lighting system for TTL metering with multiple remote strobe units, and you have a system literally without peer, at least in the current state of the market. Our feeling about the camera is pretty well summed up in the list of pros and cons above: There’s just a load of things to like about this camera, and precious little to complain about! Kudos to Nikon on a beautifully designed pro SLR, a design that’s already stood the test of time in the form of the original D2X, and that likely has years of life left in it yet.”
CNET – 2/10/2007 – reviews the 12.4 megapixel Nikon D2Xs and writes – “The good: Top-notch image quality; professional body; very low noise even at high ISOs. The bad: Expensive; large and heavy; no full-frame sensor. The bottom line: Nikon’s flagship dSLR ranks among the best 35mm-format cameras currently made, but some pros may take umbrage with its less-than-full-frame sensor.”
CNET Australia – 12/4/2006 – has reviewed / previewed the 12.4 megapixel Nikon D2Xs and writes – “The D2Xs retains the professional aspects of its predecessor and improves on many of them. It’s a worthy addition to Nikon’s professional stable of digital SLRs and will likely find fans and converts mainly among the action and sports photography crowd. Other industry-grade functions are also retained — GPS information recording remains possible with the use of the optional GPS Adapter Cord MC-35, along with high-speed wireless support with the IEEE802.11b/g compatible Wireless Transmitter WT-2/2A.”
Shutterbug – 11/15/2006 – has reviewed the 12.4 megapixel Nikon D2Xs and writes – “There’s little debate that the D2Xs is an outstanding pro camera that lets you do just about whatever you want with an image, including overlays and multi-exposures right in the camera. At about $4700 list it is sure to have limited appeal to the D70s (and new D80) shooter and will not tempt everyone to upgrade anytime soon. It is a professional camera that seems to have included features and functions that can appeal to a broad range of pros—with its near-obsessive color controls for studio and portrait photographers; its blazing speed for sports and action shooters; its power supply for location and travel shooters; and its CSI capabilities for law enforcement departments. Perhaps the D2Xs is recognition that a camera, like the pro who uses it, is not so easily categorized these days.”
Lets Go Digital – 06/02/2006 – has published the first online preview of the new 12.4 megapixel Nikon D2Xs and indicates it of the highest professional standards. They continue to write – “The introduction of the Nikon D2xs gives professional photographers yet again the choice of upgrading their digital workflow with the latest Nikon technology. The Nikon D2x already proved itself as a professional tool for the Pro and was awarded with diverse Award recognizing the importance of the top model of Nikon’s assortment of digital SLR cameras.”
Nikon today announced the new 12.4 megapixel D2Xs, a slight upgrade to the D2X. Features include – 2.5 inch LCD, electronic masking of the focusing screen in high-speed crop mode, modified metering in high-speed crop mode, a longer lasting battery, black and white mode, Adobe RGB in all color modes, up to 3 custom tone curves, 1/3 step ISO boost options, in-camera trim function, image authentication system compatible and save/load settings between cameras.
