PhotographyBlog has reviewed the Nikon Coolpix S700 and they write -

“There are plenty of style-orientated digital compacts out there, so Nikon has its work cut out in trying to make an impact, especially as, slightly awkward to control ‘controller’ aside, everything about the solid-feel, metal build Coolpix S700 is as you’d expect to find it, with little to actually distinguish it from the crowd. On a positive note, the lack of extra gimmicks at least means that the S700 is easy to use, Nikon’s on-screen menus are clean and clear and the S700’s functions clearly designated, plus even if the screen does suffer in bright light, you can take a snapshot with the minimum of fuss – which is, along with the fact that this camera looks outwardly stunning – in truth all its target mass market audience are going to be buying it for.”

ImagingResource – 27 March’08 – reviews the Nikon Coolpix S700 and felt it was a good all around camera. Here’s a summary of their review -
“In low light situations the auto exposure appeared to a bit limited in ability. Yet, it did a good job in a variety of photographic situations like bright contrasty light and managing to keep color and exposure balanced. A lot of the S700 features like distortion control, D lighting and several other unique features make the S700 a great choice for travelers.”

TrustedReviews – 29 January’08 – reviews the Nikon Coolpix S700 and felt it was a little expensive compared to the competition. Here’s a summary of their review -
“Great build quality and above average photo quality courtesy of the image stabilization system make this a really appealing point-and-shoot. Even though the 12 megapixels is attractive the camera’s images are not that much better than the less costly 8 – 10 megapixel units.”

DigitalCamerReview – 03 January’08 – reviews the Nikon Coolpix S700 and noticed some barrel distortion in wide angle shots. Here’s a summary of their review -
“Impressive image quality and the real surprise was just how well the camera perform in low light situations. So if you add up the picture quality and impressive performance the S700 is one of the better deals on the market.”

Press Release

August 30, 2007 — TOKYO — Nikon Corporation is pleased to announce the introduction of the COOLPIX S700. Blending elegant design and quality construction with advanced features and high performance, the COOLPIX S700 is as satisfying to carry as it is to shoot beautiful photos with. Built on a custom application of Nikon’s innovative EXPEED digital image processing concept and incorporating the precision optics of a NIKKOR lens, The COOLPIX S700 is built to realize optimum performance and maximum image quality.

he COOLPIX S700 sets a rare example by delivering photographic performance that exceeds expectations of the smallest body among competing compact digital cameras*. Imaging power begins with a full 12.1 effective megapixels of sharp resolution from the new 1/1.72-inch CCD image sensor and precision optics of a 3x Zoom-NIKKOR lens. Completing the set is a new digital image processing engine that not only delivers the high performance to reproduce these high-resolution images with clarity and true-to-life color, but also to realize delightfully fast camera response.

The stylish contours and fine finish of the COOLPIX S700’s aluminum body also conceals the heart of a true high performance camera, one designed to free users to enjoy being part of the experience while capturing special moments at will. The COOLPIX S700 powers up within 0.9 seconds. And its practically imperceptible shutter release time lag is 0.005 seconds or less.

Quality operation and controls receive as much attention. For example, the 2.7-inch LCD monitor offers a bright and large image that makes it a pleasure to use, even out in the sun. And the surrounding large control buttons and the user-friendly rotary multi selector are carefully positioned to provide intuitive operation.

Price & Availability
The COOLPIX S700 will be available at photo-specialty stores nationwide beginning September 2007 at a MSRP of $379.95.

*Among competing 12 effective megapixel class compact digital cameras equipped with optical vibration reduction as of August 30, 2007 (according to research conducted by NIKON CORPORATION).
