GoodGearGuide has reviewed the Nikon Coolpix S52c and they write -
“Aesthetically this camera follows the trend of past S series units, offering a stylish, curved design that is sure to appeal to fashion-oriented users. It is a sturdy camera, but the screen has a nasty habit of attracting finger prints.”

BusinessWeek – 14 February’08 – reviews the Nikon Coolpix S51c and feels the camera has lots of design flaws. Here’s a summary of their review -
“If you are looking for an inexpensive WiFi enable flawed digital camera the S51c might be a good choice. In the area of photo quality the camera was simply inferior to competing brands. Navigating shooting options is confusing because of needless buttons and unnecessary menu navigation.”

Well… Looks like the BusinessWeek bunch did not like this camera. Small buttons and weak image performance drug this camera down. On a good note they did indicate the camera had a stylish design. :)
ImagingResource – 03 January’08 – reviews the Nikon Coolpix S51c and warns here is another pretty face but no talent.” Here’s a summary of their review -
“On the outside this is a striking looking camera, in fact one of the nicest point-and-shoots around. However, in the real world the camera is weighted down by the fact that its WiFi will only talk to Nikon’s Picturetown server, which is kind of lame. Even though the camera has a nice large LCD, easy to navigate Nikon menu system and a cool scroll wheel it still ended up being a disappointment.”
DigitalCameraInfo – 29 December’07 – reviews the Nikon Coolpix S51c and warns that looks can be deceiving.” Here’s a summation of their review conclusion -
“Sparkly on the outside and a complete let down on the inside can sum up this camera. Poor resolution, inaccurate color, slow start up and a bad white balance accuracy take this camera from a bad standing to worse standing.”
DigitalCameraReview – 13 December’07 – reviews the Nikon Coolpix S51c and thought the pictures produced by the camera were”unremarkable.”. Here’s an excerpt from their review conclusion -
“While there aren’t many serious concerns with the S51c, it’s hard to say that it offers significant improvements – in terms of image and build quality, usability, or style – over the S50/S50c. Obviously, one of the big selling points here from a tech perspective is WiFi capability, but given the limitations of the system, Nikon still hasn’t created a device that will have broad usability and appeal on this front. If the S51c appeals to you, the standard S51 (sans WiFi) or even the S50 may be better choices. The bottom line, then, is that with lots of serious competitors in the compact market, it’s hard to strongly recommend the S51c.”
ABC News – 25 November’07 – reviews the Nikon Coolpix S51c and was not impressed with the slow autofocus performance. Here’s an excerpt from their review -
“Although the camera is well-designed, it would be better suited to fast photography if it had a better response to shooting and focusing. It seems as though the camera was designed around the Wi-Fi feature instead of its ability to shoot.”
CNET.co.uk – 21 November’07 – reviews the Nikon Coolpix S51c and comments that if you plan on using the public wireless networks you’ll probably be disappointed. Here’s an excerpt from their review conclusion -
“Although some aspects of the Nikon Coolpix S1c’s wireless features are well-executed, we hesitate to recommend it on this function alone as Wi-Fi in general doesn’t seem ready yet. As a camera, the S51c is unremarkable and lens problems make it hard to recommend over it similarly cameras.”
GoodGearGuide – 14 November’07 – reviews the Nikon Coolpix S51c and notes that some shoppers may be disappointed with the digital noise and soft pictures. Here’s an excerpt from their review verdict -
“The feature set is basic, offering rudimentary control of white balance, ISO sensitivity and focus mode. There is a burst mode that operates at 1.2 frames per second, as well as image stabilization and Nikon’s Best Shot Selector tool.”
ePhotozine – 22 October’07 – reviews the Nikon Coolpix S51c and writes that there is digital noise apparent at ISO 100. Here’s an excerpt from their review verdict -
“It looks nice, and it produces good results. The Wi-Fi connectivity relies on either an open access spot, or being provided with the encryption key, which does limit where it’s going to be used. There’s not much point in using it at home. The LCD screen is large and provides a good viewing platform, though it doesn’t update that quickly if moving the camera. The controls are all on the small side, and while there are some decent photographic features, a camera like this is one for the point and shoot market.”
