Update Nikon Coolpix P1 features include, 8 megapixels, 3.5 optical Nikkor 36-126mm zoom, 2.5 LCD, WiFi, 16 scene modes, 32 MB of internal memory, and in-camera red-eye fix. The wireless connection can be used to transfer all images on the cameras storage card or ‘live’ where each image is sent back to PictureProject on the fly. The only limitation at the moment appears to be that the P1 and P2 will only send to PictureProject and not to standard FTP servers or across the Internet.

Bytesector - 03/06/2006 - The Nikon Coolpix P1 is a great little camera and is a fairly good improvement on the older Coolpix 7900. The camera comes in with an MSRP of $519 CAD, so it’s only marginally more expensive. The overall image quality is slightly above average in most situations, but suffers indoors. The Wi-Fi feature is a fantastic little addition despite the fact that it’s pretty slow and drains the battery - but it has some uses. The P1 is a good camera, but it’s nothing absolutely spectacular. There are more versatile units on the market that would be worth looking into if you don’t mind going without Wi-Fi capability.

Steve’s Digicams - Nikon’s Coolpix P1 is a nice ultra-compact digicam that produces good quality 8-megapixel images and VGA sized movies; and lets not forget its 802.11 b/g certified. I liked just about every feature on this model, and was only annoyed when trying to capture spontaneous moments of friends and family indoors. However, outdoors or when shooting under very good lighting, it will keep up with similar models in its class. At about $399, it offers a good value and will make a great choice for family, business, or tourist users and is sure to please the WiFi geeks who hate wires.

PC Magazine - The Nikon Coolpix P1 may have been the first wireless point-and-shoot to reach the market, but its wireless capabilities lag behind. It has solid picture quality, good performance and features. However, connecting to wireless signal can be frustrating. Manuals and help guides need improvement.

Imaging Resource - Overall, a good choice for the point & shoot user looking for an easy to use, compact digital camera with a surprising range of capabilities. At the same time though, it’s also an appealing option for the more advanced shooter looking for a “pocket” camera. The WiFi feature adds to the price and is still not as brainless/painless as it might be, but is reasonably easy to set up, has a high “cool factor,” and the Shoot & Transfer mode could be a load of fun at parties. A Dave’s Pick for its image quality, good styling, and rich feature set.

With the newly updated version, customers can import images via cable connection or wirelessly as they please. PictureProject also makes it easy to organize and edit images, create slide shows, make movie presentations with music and special effects, share images and do much more, putting additional performance at the customers’ fingertips and adding fun to their photography. The Nikon Coolpix P1 digital camera is scheduled for release in September 2005.
