Imaging-Resource has reviewed the Nikon Coolpix L14 and they write -
“On the fun scale, the Nikon Coolpix L14 scores big. It’s light enough to take anywhere and compact enough to fit anywhere, too. Controls are so simple you won’t forget them. And the menu system is the clearest and easiest to use I’ve seen. If you don’t understand an item, there’s a very easy to use help system available, too.”
ePhotozine – 11 January’08 – reviews the Nikon Coolpix L14 and thinks the maco mode stinks. Here’s a summary of their review -
“Even though the camera lacks any sort of noise control the reviewer was impressed with the image quality, so much so they called it sterling. As the reviewer notes because of the lack of features this camera is NOT for the person who needs a lot of control. It is intended for the person who just wants to turn it on and take pictures. No muss no fuss.”
Pocket-lint – 18 December’07 – reviews the Nikon Coolpix L14 and liked the one touch portrait mode. Here’s an excerpt from their review verdict -
“Easy to use with good image quality at lower ISOs the Nikon Coolpix L14 makes a good budget snapper but one that has real problems in terms of speed of use.”
TrustedReviews – 04 December’07 – reviews the Nikon Coolpix L14 and notes the cameras image quality is terrible. Here’s an excerpt from their review verdict -
“The Nikon CoolPix L14 is designed to be an easy point-and-click camera, simple enough for anyone to use, even those for whom the wheel represents dangerously advanced technology. However it fails at this purpose due to its extremely slow and unreliable low light focusing, lousy image quality and generally slow operation. It is well made, light and easy to handle, and fairly robust, but even a child would quickly become frustrated by its limitations. There are much better cameras costing not much more money.”

Press Release

August 30, 2007 — TOKYO Nikon Corporation is pleased to announce the introduction of the COOLPIX L14, a quality compact digital camera that combines high performance with operating ease while also providing the staying power of long battery life. Built on a custom application of Nikon’s innovative EXPEED digital image processing concept and incorporating the precision optics of a NIKKOR lens, The COOLPIX L14 is built to realize optimum performance and maximum image quality.

The COOLPIX L14 makes full use of its 7.1 effective megapixels of imaging power to capture true-to-life color witd enough fine details that it leaves plenty of freedom to crop or produce enlargements. This pairs with the precision optics of a 3x Zoom-NIKKOR lens that covers a practical range from 38-114mm (35mm equivalent) to ably capture everything from group shots to close-up portraits.

The COOLPIX L14 offers the world’s longest battery life*, maximizing the power of the supplied Energizer lithium AA-size batteries. Using a standard battery size that is widely available around the world brings a great advantage in that it means never worrying about recharging or running out of power. Better still, the energy efficient design of the COOLPIX L14 allows it to shoot 1,000 photos on a pair of Energizer lithium AA-size batteries.

Intuitive operation and user-friendly controls ensure error-free command over the performance features of the COOLPIX L14. Dedicated buttons on the top of the body make it easy to switch between shooting and playback modes. The large 2.4-inch LCD monitor offers a bright image that is a pleasure to view, even outdoors. And the no-nonsense design of the body itself assures a solid grip while pleasing the eyes with an inviting balance of flowing surfaces contrasted by sharp edge lines. To best match individual preferences, the COOLPIX L14 will be available in three attractive body colors**: Silver, Blue and Pink.

Price & Availability
The COOLPIX L14 will be available September 2007 with an MSRP of $149.95.

*Offers best battery performance in 3x optical zoom compact class as of August 30, 2007 (according to research conducted by NIKON CORPORATION). Takes approx. 1,000 shots with supplied Energizer lithium, 440 shots witd alkaline or 520 shots with EN-MH1 batteries (based on CIPA standard)
**Color availability may vary according to region.

Note: Specifications, design, product name, standard accessories, and release schedule may differ by country or area.

Nikon COOLPIX L14 Feature Highlights

New Easy Auto mode and scene modes for carefree shooting
Easy Auto mode makes it easier to turn on the camera and shoot without worrying about settings. Easy access to 15 different scene modes and five movie modes also ensures shooting that is tuned to give the best results to match the moment.

Three Unique Nikon Image Innovations
The COOLPIX L14 features a selection of three innovative functions that provide the ability to actually improve the quality of images within the camera. Face-priority AF* automatically finds, then focuses on people’s faces for crisp, clear results time after time. In-Camera Red-Eye Fix automatically compensates to help eradicate traces of the annoying red-eye effect that can sometimes be encountered during flash photography. And D-Lighting can be applied to improve underexposed images or shots taken with too much backlight. D-Lighting automatically creates a copy of the image with detail added where necessary, but with well-exposed areas left completely untouched.
* Face recognition capability may be limited in some shooting conditions.

Stop-Motion animation for more creative fun
Stop-motion makes it easy to create animated films within the camera. Users can shoot models, move them, shoot them again and, when done, have the camera processes the images to deliver professional-looking results using the timing of preference.

ISO 1000 capability for better pictures in lower light
Making it easier to take great-looking pictures in lower lighting conditions, or to capture fast moving subjects with outstanding clarity, the COOLPIX L14 accurately measures available light to automatically select the optimal sensitivity setting for the shot between the range of ISO 64 to as high as ISO 1000.
