Imaging Resource has reviewed the Nikon Coolpix L12 and writes;
“I do miss manual control of aperture, shutter, and even ISO, but no child will. And certainly not an adult whose main interest is just in catching the moment. They’ll find the camera easy to carry and use, especially with the large type in the LCD menus. The Vibration Reduction, and Macro mode are going to be a real treats, too. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, Vibration Reduction is a really useful camera feature, and to find it in a $160 camera is an unexpected bonus.”
DCResource reviews the Nikon Coolpix L12 and thought the cameras performance was a mixed bag. Normal operation seem to work fine but stick the L12 in a low light situation and it has difficulty focusing. Overall photo quality was good, but it was really dependent on lighting. Again, in low light the camera pumps the ISO and image quality suffers, a lot.
Bottom Line: Inexpensive camera that’s easy to use but you best stick to outdoor shooting becasue as soon as you walk indoors the photo quality and camera performance goes down.

Pocket-lint reviews the Nikon Coolpix L12 and likes the fact that for such an inexpensive camera is has good image quality and plenty of scene modes. They were disappointed in the lack of manual control, sub par performance and lack of ISO control drags this cameras rating down.
Bottom Line: Priced right but all-in-all not a good choice.

Cameras.co.uk – 6/21/2007 – has reviewed of the Nikon Coolpix L12 and they write, “The Nikon Coolpix L12 is a relatively inexpensive digital camera. The results of my tests suggest it is one of the better starter digital cameras on the market. I was particularly impressed with the sharpness of the photos. This camera has fewer features than similar models and this helps to make it easy to use.”
Steve’s Digicams – 6/15/2007 – has reviewed of the Nikon Coolpix L12 and they write, “the Nikon Coolpix L12 is an average 7-megapixel compact digicam. While it does offer good image quality and plenty of useful features, the slow flash recharge time (which also effects shooting performance) and horrible noise in “Anti-Shake” mode really effect its overall curb appeal. With a price tag of US$199 or less, I feel the L12 only offers an Ok value for a 7-megapixel consumer model.”
CNET – 6/7/2007 – has reviewed of the Nikon Coolpix L12 and they write, “Even though it includes features I was surprised to see on a budget camera, the Nikon Coolpix L12 simply has too many problems for me to recommend it. While face detection and optical image stabilization are both very nice, they can’t make up for the camera’s slow shooting, painfully long flash recycle time, and inconsistent low-light shots.”
Digital Camera Review – 5/23/2007 – has reviewed of the Nikon Coolpix L12 and they write, “The Nikon Coolpix L12 presents something of a quandary – on the plus side of the ledger it’s currently the cheapest 7 megapixel digicam available featuring optical image stabilization. It is also very easy to use, fairly compact, tough enough to stand up to the demands of modern life, powered by cheap universally available AA batteries, and capable of delivering consistently decent images. On the negative side of the ledger, the L12 is a bit slow across the board, the optics aren’t top quality, there’s no optical viewfinder, and it doesn’t allow much user input.”
Digital Camera Review – 5/20/2007 – has a hands on first thoughts review of the Nikon Coolpix L12 and they write, “The L12 is a bit slow, there’s no optical viewfinder, and it doesn’t allow much user input, but it is the cheapest digicam currently available featuring full time VR (Vibration Reduction) optical image stabilization. VR optical image stabilization automatically compensates for camera shake, allowing even beginners to capture sharply focused images. The L12 is very easy to use, fairly compact, tough enough to stand up to the demands of modern life, powered by cheap universally available AA batteries, and capable of delivering surprisingly good images.”
