DigitalCameraInfo - 4/2/2007 - reviews the 7.1 megapixel Kodak EasyShare P712 and writes - “In the increasingly crowded high-zoom, SLR-like digital camera market, consumers are faced with many options. These cameras offer the feel of an SLR in a smaller size with many automatic options. Some manufacturers are offering solid examples and are also constantly improving the category. While the Kodak EasyShare Z712 IS offers some new technologies, like Perfect Touch and their new Color Science Image Processing Chip, its major selling point is the price. If you want a high-zoom camera with a lightweight design at an affordable price, this camera will suffice. However, if you are drawn to this camera because of its “Easy†designation, don’t be fooled, most cameras in this category have a full auto mode and will function as a direct point and shoot. For those interested in the Z712 IS, it will likely serve your needs, it just may not provide as much control or the image quality of its competitors.”
LetsGoDigital - 3/25/2007 - reviews the 7.1 megapixel Kodak EasyShare P712 and writes - “As such I have mixed feelings about the Kodak P712 test. On one hand there is the ease of a compact design, great optical range and handy image stabilization, and it provides much user-friendliness. On the other hand there is the disappointing quality of the ISO and the limited ISO range, as well as the, sometimes slow, reaction speed of the camera. It makes me feel as if Kodak eased their way out at these points. Had it been so that the competition showed the same images I would have been milder in my judgment. But with the current technology and hardware/software quality a lot more is possible, and that is where Kodak fails. The Kodak EasyShare P712 is an attractive camera for the every day shots of the beginning photographer. The Kodak EasyShare P712 may certainly not be seen as the alternative to a digital SLR camera. The difference between them is just too big.”
PhotographyReview - 1/18/2007 - reviews the 7.1 megapixel Kodak EasyShare P712 and writes - “The Kodak EasyShare P712 was a fun camera for me to test because it’s like a miniature version of the digital SLR I use when I’m on the job. However, it’s still a compact digital camera and it has the image quality issues typical of all point-and-shoot digital cameras. Personally, I’m not sure if I like the size of the camera - I like point-and-shoots to fit in my pocket. But I do like the super-zoom digital camera format. The serious photographer who’s willing to trade pocket-sized convenience for a lot more power and control will find the Kodak EasyShare P712 is a great camera to own.”
DPExpert - 10/19/2006 - reviews the 7.1 megapixel Kodak EasyShare P712 and writes - “We understand the attraction of these super-zoom cameras. They seem to offer so much — a pseudo SLR through-the-lens viewfinder; a lens which is the equivalent of at least three interchangeables; a compact body and, so people hope, simplicity. In our experience it takes much more effort to produce a good picture with these gimmicky cameras than with any digital SLR. The super-zooms are light and cheap and that is the end of their advantage. Kodak’s lovely little V550 is a better camera even with only 5 million pixels and a 3x zoom and optical viewfinder.”
Megapixel - 9/25/2006 - reviews the 7.1 megapixel Kodak EasyShare P712 and writes - “Negatives - Chromatic aberration when the image contains strong contrasts - Lack of sharpness at the widest angle - Sensitive to noise as of 125 ISO and when the flash is used.”
Imaging Resources - 9/18/2006 - reviews the 7.1 megapixel Kodak EasyShare P712 and writes - “Having said all that, the Kodak P712 warrants a Dave’s Pick based simply on its great 12x optical zoom, optical image stabilizer, and combination of ease of use in Auto mode with its broad feature set for more sophisticated shooters. The Kodak P712 takes great pictures even when zoomed all the way out to an extraordinary 432mm equivalent which is what being a superzoom camera is really all about.”
Steve’s Digicams - 9/6/2006 - has reviewed the 7.1 megapixel Kodak EasyShare P712 and they write - “While it offers loads of appealing features, the outdoor mediocre image quality really turned us away from this model. However, it does capture nice portrait images and is a speedy performer. None the less, with an MSRP of US$499 it’s a bit too expensive.”
Photography Blog - 8/31/2006 - has reviewed the 7.1 megapixel Kodak EasyShare P712 and they write - “The Kodak Easyshare P712 is one of a handful of compact digital cameras with a 12x zoom lens, offering a versatile focal range of 36-432mm that will satisfy most photographers. The ability to zoom from 36mm up to 432mm and still get sharp results thanks to the image stabilization system is a revelation if you’re used to a camera with a smaller zoom. Everything from mild wide-angle scenics to distant close-ups is possible, all from a camera that you can fit into a small camera bag, and there isn’t too much distortion at either end of the zoom range. The Kodak P712 will feel instantly familiar to anyone who has used an SLR before, with a full range of automatic and manual exposure controls available, although its “distinctive” looks may put some people off. It’s also a very customisable camera which you can configure to meet your own specific needs, and has a wealth of still and video shooting options.”
Pocket-lint - 8/29/2006 - has reviewed the 7.1 megapixel Kodak EasyShare P712 and writes - “With more than respectable image quality at lower ISOs, and three custom settings (almost essential to take the pain out of the many buttons and controls), the P712 can reward you with some excellent results. It is undeniably a well-specified camera but one that’s a bit of a mixed bag; what makes it good is offset by handling issues or the noisy sensor. However, in the final analysis if you want a compact ultra-zoom camera that grows with you, or that provides plenty of scope for your snapping off the bat and your happy not making bigger prints, it’s worth a look.”
Trusted Review - 8/15/2006 - has reviewed the 7.1 megapixel Kodak EasyShare P712 and writes - “With 7-megapixel resolution, a full range of manual shooting modes, a high quality image stabilised 12x optical zoom lens, good overall handling and the all-important RAW mode, the P712 has specification closer to a professional SLR than a compact. However the small sensor size limits its otherwise excellent picture quality, and unnecessary complexity makes it difficult to use.”
Digital Camera Review - 8/10/2006 - has reviewed the 7.1 megapixel Kodak EasyShare P712 and write. “There were many things that liked about this camera. The image stabilization system worked well in a variety of conditions. The LCD and EVF were very good, with plenty of resolution and good refresh rates. I continue to be impressed with Kodak LCDs outdoors. I also feel that their “hybrid AF” system, with the additional AF sensor, was beneficial to getting that crucial focus lock. The almost non-existent shutter lag was also nice.”
PopPhoto - 07/20/2006 - has reviewed the 7.1 megapixel Kodak EasyShare P712 and write. “While there are numerous noise issues with the P712 that might cause some swings and misses, the camera still has a lot to offer. Overall, colors looked sharp and well-saturated, and exposures showed plenty of detail. With a 12X superzoom, image stabilization as well being compatible with the EasyShare system, we give the EasyShare P712 a hit on our scorecard.”
CNET - 7/6/2006 - has reviewed the 7.1 megapixel Kodak EasyShare P712 and rate it 7.4 out 10. They continue to write - “Kodak’s EasyShare P712 offers a higher level of control than its Z-series brethren, but noise at higher ISOs persists.”

KODAK EASYSHARE P712 Digital Camera Unleashes Photographers’ Potential with Precision Controls and Stunning Image Quality
Blazing Fast Auto-Focus System, 12X Image-Stabilised Lens, 7.1 MP Sensor Combine for Crisp, Clear Pictures Ideal for Sharing
London, June 20 - Eastman Kodak Company today announced the KODAK EASYSHARE P712 zoom digital camera, setting a new performance benchmark for the consumer “superzoom” category. Its precision auto-focus system with best-in-class click-to-capture rate - literally faster than the blink of an eye, at less than 1/10th of a second (0.07 seconds) - helps photographers get the exact shots they want, whether action on a sports field or children on the playground.
“When second and third-time digital camera buyers walk into stores this year, they’re searching for models with better performance and more control than point-and-shoots, without sacrificing ease of use. They want pictures that look phenomenal straight out of the camera,” said Carolyn Walsh, Product Sales Director Digital, Eastman Kodak Company. “Our new P712 camera is specifically designed for these photographers, helping them take stunning pictures that they’ll want to share widely with friends and family.”
The KODAK EASYSHARE P712 camera features a 12X (36 – 432 mm equiv.), image-stabilised, f2.8 – f/3.7, SCHNEIDER-KREUZNACH VARIOGON lens that delivers exquisite detail and sharpness. Its 7.1 megapixel sensor is paired with legendary KODAK Color Science image processing for spectacular, highly accurate colour - shot after shot.
Optical image stabilisation provides a two-stop advantage over non-image stabilised systems for better capturing subjects in low light for both stills and video. It also minimises handheld camera shake at longer focal lengths, which is ideal while photographing sporting events and during everyday picture taking when carrying a stabilising device is impractical.
Sharing Made Simple
The EASYSHARE P712 camera’s large 2.5-inch, high-resolution LCD and electronic viewfinder simplify framing, reviewing and sharing pictures. Photographers can select pictures for e-mailing or printing with a touch of the exclusive Share button, and even mark them as favourites for automatic uploading to the KODAK EASYSHARE Gallery in conjunction with included KODAK EASYSHARE Software version 6.
TV-quality, 30 frames-per-second VGA video with sound (MPEG4) is always available on the P712 camera with the turn of a dial. Convenient on-camera video editing includes functions such as split, cut, merge and trim, plus the ability to create single-frame or multi-frame “storyboard” still pictures.
As with all EASYSHARE cameras, the P712 model is compatible with KODAK EASYSHARE snapshot printers and camera docks, the IMAGELINK print system, and PICTBRIDGE technology for direct photo output without a computer.
Advanced Features for Precise Control
The hot shoe flash connector and optional KODAK P20 zoom flash provides enhanced, more flexible lighting control, while the included rechargeable lithium-ion battery delivers long-lasting power for more picture taking opportunities.
Additional features include PASM, custom and extensive preset scene modes; multiple burst modes for action shooting; three-shot in-camera panorama stitching; a live histogram; 25 selectable AF points; custom white balance with selectable compensation; highlight/shadow clipping displays; and RAW/TIFF/JPEG support.
