Steves-Digicams - 07 December’07 - reviews the Kodak EasyShare M883 and found that noise was evident in all photos no matter what ISO setting was used. Here’s an excerpt from their review conclusion -
“The Kodak EasyShare M883 is a very stylish camera with some nice features, such as the Face Detection, Kodak Perfect Touch technology, etc. However, there is a real problem with the noise in all of the photographs even at the lowest ISO settings. This really takes away from the quality of the images that it captures. That, combined with the less than average performance, mainly due to the slow write speed to the SD memory card, further lessens the appeal of this consumer camera. All of this considered, there are several other digicams with a price tag of slightly under US$200 that will give you better performance and image quality, while still offering most all of the other features available here.”
GoodGearGuide - 21 November’07 - reviews the Kodak EasyShare M883 and thought the cameras pictures at the wide angle looked a little soft. Here’s an excerpt from their review -
“Features wise the M883 is fairly standard for a mid-range compact model. It has the now-expected face detect focus mode, as well as ISO and white balance presets. ISO sensitivities extend to 3200, but we wouldn’t recommend shooting above ISO 400 unless you’re a fan of a little graininess. There is digital image stabilization, but it is the poor cousin of optical image stabilization and is of limited use.”

Really disappointed. This camera is not a patch on my four year old Canon Ixus 3.0 megapixel. LCD rsolution is bad and picture resolution at max quality is really bad. I have used Kodak products since my first Kodak Retina 35 mm in the 70s but if this is what they produce now, then I would rather remain with Canon.
Anti shake feature does not work and standard auto settings produce pictures of such poor quality that I delete most of them.
I will be passing this camera on to my children as it depresses me with every shot.

I bought this camera before reading many reviews about it, and was worried at first because of the reviews it had received. However, after using it for a while I have really grown to love it. It has a great display and perfect size, and is very easy to use. The battery lasts a lot longer than any that needs replacement batteries, (such as my old Nikon Coolpix) and shutter release time isnt too bad. So much can be done with it. I very much like the “favorites” feature. The photos are not like what you would get on a professional camera, obviously, but for a point-and-shoot they are perfectly fine. I would recommend this camera for anyone who likes to throw a camera in their bag and take pictures at events.
