TechTree – 13 December’07 – reviews the Kodak EasyShare M873 and notes this camera is all about style, not quality. Here’s an excerpt from their review -
“The Kodak Easy Share M873 is available for around Rs. 12,999 with a 1-year warranty. This price is good for an 8MP camera with the number of features the M873 has, but going by the quality of the pictures that it delivers, I’d rather look for another option. Maybe you’ll find something in the previous PC buying guides that we published for cameras less than 15K. “
CNET Australia – 23 October’07 – reviews the Kodak EasyShare M873 and indicates this digital just does not cut it in today’s competitive market. Here’s an excerpt from their review -
“The M873 is extremely pocketable and very easy to use, although this mainly stems from the fact that it doesn’t do all that much. Picture quality isn’t amazing but if you ignore the noisy higher ISO settings and resign yourself to relying on the flash in low light, it’s perfectly possible to take decent snapshots.”
TrustedReviews – 23 October’07 – reviews the Kodak EasyShare M873 and writes that this camera really fails in the most important area, image quality. Here’s an excerpt from their review verdict -
“While the Kodak EasyShare M873 is unquestionably a very attractive camera, with good build quality and finish, and is certainly priced to sell, it really doesn’t compare well with ultra-compact cameras from other manufacturers. The lacklustre performance and poor low light ability are serious handicaps, but the very poor image quality is what really kills it. If you’re looking for an ultra-compact camera, save up for a little longer and get something else instead.”

I was most disappointed after buying the 873 to see that it did not have image stabilisation. With no standard USB connection at the camera, that is another minus. How long will the small USB adapter block and fine connection in the camera body last? And finally what is the point of Easyshare. With my sony cameras they are treated like a memory stick and I can access the contents and manipulate the shots anyway I like even under linux. I don’t wish to use Windows or Easyshare. Trying to tie users to proprietary software is not smart. I would not recommend this camera.
