Imaging Resource - 10/6/2006 - has reviewed the 8 megapixel HP Photosmart R927 and they write - “Though the HP R927 is advertised as having an 8.2MP imaging sensor, I found picture quality did not live up to this billing. For starters, images had an overall softness to them that was disappointing. Dynamic range was also not good enough on a camera in this class, with images frequently overexposed and flat. Color lacked crispness, and Caucasian skin tones came out oversaturated and slightly pink. The HP R927’s low-light capabilities were also sorely lacking with light sensitivity adjustable only to an unusually noisy ISO 400 setting. While the flash on the HP R927 was extremely powerful, I found that it was often too powerful, knocking out whatever atmosphere there was in a night scene with a flash of bright light. While there’s clearly a lot to like on the HP R927, image quality just isn’t up to snuff.”
DCMag - 10/3/2006 - has reviewed the 8 megapixel HP Photosmart R927 and here’s the verdict - “HP has thought long and hard about how to improve their cameras, resulting in a number of new and exciting technologies they have dubbed ‘Real Life’. Now the R927 is cheaper it’s a good buy – not necessarily for its image quality, which is average. However, the panorama stitching is jaw-droppingly good.”
PC World - 8/3/2006 - has reviewed the 6 megapixel HP Photosmart R727 and rates it 78 out of 100. They go on to write - “Image quality was good with accurate colors and reasonable detail. The images are a little noisy, though: Even in good lighting at a low ISO setting, a grainy pattern appears in the darker parts of images, and when you increase the ISO rating to the maximum of 400, it becomes much more pronounced.”
InfoSync - 07/15/2006 - has posted a new review of the 8.2 megapixel HP Photosmart R927 and rate it 86% out 100 - “The HP Photosmart R927 isn’t the most chic digicam on the market, but it takes very good photos and offers tons of scene modes and in-camera tweaks. Photos looked clear and vibrant overall, and its Design Gallery improves snaps before printing and provides creative controls not found elsewhere.”
PCMag - 7/15/2006 - has posted a new review of the 8.2 megapixel HP Photosmart R927 and and rate it 4.5 out 5 - “The HP Photosmart R927 is a solid camera that offers myriad features, from capture options and shooting modes to an unusual “tummy tuck” feature. If you don’t mind the noticeable shutter lag, then ditch the diet and opt for this affordable camera.”
ZoneNumerique - 06/05/2006 - a French site (Google translated) today posted a new review of the 8.2 megapixel HP Photosmart R927 and here’s their versict - “HP Photosmart R927 as much packed us on certain points than disappointed on others. For example, the apparatus abounds in evolved/moved functions, expert adjustments, of software intelligence, but alas, its a little twisted ergonomics makes their use rather complicated. Its quality of overall good image could have been better with a good objective, HP a little too being rested on its excellent solutions of correction of the photographs. If not, the completion of R927 is exemplary and its station of reception is a truth more. Screen 3 ” fact also party of the things which we greet on this compact.”
CNET - 5/6/2006 - recently scored the 8 megapixel HP Photosmart R927 a 6.2 out 10 and here are their reasons: “With its big 3-inch LCD and a menu system full of helpful tips, the HP Photosmart R927 is a decent camera for someone new to digital cameras or to photography in general. Pixel-peepers looking for the best image quality, though, should steer clear.”
Digital Camera Review - 4/26/2006 - has just completed its review of the 8.2 megapixel HP Photosmart R927 and they write - The HP Photosmart R927 provides a vast array of options and capabilities neatly packaged into an easy to use device. It’s solid enough for advanced use, and easy enough that someone with no prior experience can pick it up and go. All in all, I’d call it a very worthwhile camera for the money, whether you’re looking for a simple and effective means of snapping a few casual pictures, or you’re an hobbyist wanting more powerful equipment without sacrificing usability.
Digital CameraTracker 4/18/2006 - has reviewed the 8.2 megapixel HP Photosmart R927 and reports on the flagship point-and-shoot digital camera, with all the benefits and burdens this category of camera offers.
I’ve just finished doing the forensics on the R927 and I have to say this camera is a lot of fun right out of the box. HP designers have gone out of their way to pack this camera with a rich set of features that seem to be unique to HP, such as adaptive lighting and in-camera panoramic stitching.
DC Resource - 9/9/2006 - has reviewed the 8.2 megapixel HP Photosmart R927 and here’s the conclusion - “If you want a camera that’s easy to use and takes photos best suited for small prints then I’d recommend looking at the Photosmart R927. If you’re going to be making larger prints, the noise and purple fringing will be an issue, so I’d probably look at other cameras. Same goes for those who like burst modes: since the camera’s LCD is dark during continuous shooting (and there’s no optical viewfinder), it’s kind of hard to follow your subject!”
Steve’s Digicams - 4/10/2006 - has reviewed the 8.2 megapixel HP Photosmart R927 and indicates it offers a good “bang for your buck” - “The PhotoSmart R927 is an appealing 8-megapixel model. Offering good image quality, performance, and durability, it should make a great camera for any family or business. You’re sure to capture some great pictures thanks to its Real Life technologies and helpful hints and menus. With an MSRP of about $399, it offers a good “bang for your buck” and is sure to be yet another popular HP model.”
Quesabesde, - 4/10/2006 - a Spanish site reviews the 8 megapixel HP Photosmart R927 and here’s the verdict -
In favor:
- 8 megapixels
- Consistent body and good finished.
- Quality LCD screen (3 inches).
- Fast and effective zoom lens.
- Noise and clearness even at 400 ISO.
- Ample explanations and aids available in the LCD screen.
Designtechnica - 3/28/2006 - has reviewed the 8 megapixel HP Photosmart R927 and here’s the bottom line. “Anyone looking for a compact, attractive 8MP point-and-shoot digicam should give this camera serious consideration. Although the R927 had some flaws, the large LCD screen, the great menus, the built-in special effects and - most important - the photos it took put it on the plus side of the ledger. Still for the next go-around HP engineers should figure a way to juice up the time it takes to save a shot. And for God’s sake, put a video out on the supplied dock rather than forcing buyers to shell out another $80 for an accessory.”
Digital Camera Info - 1/8/2006 - has a behind the scenes CES 2006 preview/review of the 8.2 megapixel HP Photosmart R927 and they write. “The HP Photosmart R927 has introduced a number of new features and strengthened older ones in the HP line of digital cameras such as simplicity, basic navigation, and direct editing, printing and viewing of images via WiFi connection. The R927 offers numerous preset shooting modes, and provides full text explanations and visual examples of each feature. The camera also comes with manual settings for influence over ISO speed, exposure, aperture, shutter speed, metering, focus, and bracketing of color, adaptive lighting and exposure. These settings also come with full text explanations and thumbnails when additional help is required. Menu structures are easy to navigate and simple, with easy-to-read submenu headings.
The new in-camera Design Gallery options to set border styles, modify colors, and set artist effects met with varying success, though the effects should satisfy the basic point-and-shoot audience demands. The R927 also provides users with live views when alterations are executed with manual control settings. Improving over models from last year, this camera is able to provide Image Advice and Red-eye Reduction options while in real time processing. These features may also be accessed during playback review as well.”
