DCResource reviews the General Electric G1 and writes;
“Photo quality on the G1 is nothing to write home about. While exposure was good, the G1 produced more than its share of photos with a noticeable color cast. Photos are soft, with fuzzy details, probably due to heavy noise reduction. Photos are missing quite a bit of detail at fairly low ISO settings (compared to other cameras in this class), and the two highest sensitivities are a bit of a joke. Purple fringing wasn’t much of an issue, save for our torture test photo. Vignetting (dark corners) popped up several times, however. Redeye was a big problem on the G1, and the in-camera redeye removal tool couldn’t get rid of it.”
Digital Camera Info reviews the General Electric G1 and wonders why General Electric chsoe to enter the digital camera market when the chances of survival are pretty slim. They found the G1 disappointing. It does have face detection but the feature needs to be turned on every time you wan to use it.

Bottom Line: Slow performance, important features buried deep in the menus, and produces over exposed and grainy images.

Steve’s Digicams – 7/9/2007 – has reviewed the General Electric G1 and writes, “GE has created a nice “entry-level” digicam that offers some appealing features. However, I was a bit disappointed with the position of the zoom controls and shutter release. That said, this model has the ability to capture nice photos, and with all of the useful exposure modes, everyone in you household or office will enjoy using it. With 7-megapixels of resolution, you’ll be able to create prints up to 13×19- inches or larger.”
CNET – 7/6/2007 – has reviewed the General Electric G1 and writes, “The G1 can, on occasion, deliver decent quality shots. As long as there’s nothing too dark or too bright in the scene, exposures look fine. And the automatic white balance works pretty well.

The bottom line: Buy something else. The General Electric G1 has plenty of better, similarly priced competitors.”
Megapixel – 6/22/2007 – has reviewed the General Electric G1 and writes, “Positives: Good image quality with good lighting – Compact – Internal lens design – Light weight – Simple to operate – Offers all the basic scene modes Negatives: Compression too strong at all levels – Sensitive to noise – Some distortion at both ends of the focal length range – Awkward placement of zoom control – Lens easily partly obstructed by fingers”
DigitalCameraInfo – 3/12/2007 – has a first impressions review of the 7 megapixel General Electric G1 and they write, “It’s hard to come to a conclusion on the G1 without knowing the price; General Imaging has said that their new cameras will be priced between $149 and $399, but didn’t specify where the G1 would fall in this range. We would expect it to fall somewhere in the middle, though: This is a value-driven camera that has no outstanding features, so the price and image quality will be what ultimately decides how well it does. But it has most of the features that people look for; decent resolution, a good sized screen (albeit a rather low resolution one) and a decent control system that bodes well for this new camera manufacturer. And it comes with the General Electric logo on the front; a brand that’s synonymous with quality engineering and high technology. We’ll wait to see how well it fits in with this reputation. But price is key in the modern digital camera market, and how many of your hard-earned dollars they want for the camera is the most important thing.”
