LetsGoDigital - 3/31/2007 - reviews the 6.3 megapixel Fujifilm FinePix S6000fd / S6500fd and writes - “Not only the quality convinces, also the operation of the camera is without a doubt good. Let it be with a few glosses. Essential settings are, like RAW, light measurement and white balance, in the menu. And the flap for the battery holder has a less solid construction. On the other hand you have an excellent LCD monitor, very pleasant operation of the zoom, excellent face detection and a ditto auto focus. Moreover a set of batteries will last very long. It is an excellent performance of Fujifilm that one can take so many pictures with ordinary alkaline batteries. Ideal for when you are on a long trip or traveling a lot. Or when you just have to travel light, for the Fujifilm FinePix S6500fd Megazoom camera then actually offers everything you need.”
Cameras.co.uk - 3/1/2007 - reviews the 6.3 megapixel Fujifilm FinePix S6000fd / S6500fd and writes - “The Fuji Finepix S6500fd is one of the few super zoom cameras I have reviewed that appears to be able to avoid the dreaded purple fringing. It does roughly everything you would expect it to do and I am also very impressed by the build quality.”
TRReviews - 2/15/2007 - reviews the 6.3 megapixel Fujifilm FinePix S6000fd and writes, “A reasonably priced ‘bridge’ pro-sumer camera for those wanting to upgrade their digital photography experience and make use of the impressive Face Detection technology to grab those portrait photos quicker and more accurately than before.”
Imaging-Resource - 2/5/2007 - reviews the 6.3 megapixel Fujifilm FinePix S6000fd and writes, “For users who are considering a digital SLR but aren’t quite ready to take the plunge, the Fujifilm Finepix S6000fd offers a compelling argument for staying with an all-in-one. From a distance — and even from up close, actually — it’s easy to mistake the Fuji S6000fd for a digital SLR, though the camera’s 10.71x (28 - 300mm) lens is not detachable. Nice touches like a rubberized ring-grip around the lens and full manual zoom control via the barrel give this camera a professional feel, while fun and helpful technologies such as Face Detection, i-Flash, and the ability to shoot at light sensitivities of up to ISO 3200 make the Fuji S6000fd suitable for even novices.”
Steve’s Digicams - 1/31/2007 - reviews the 6.3 megapixel Fujifilm FinePix S6000fd and writes - “If you are weighing the S6000fd versus a dSLR, you’ll find that they have many similarities, including standard zoom range, mechanical zoom ring, sensitivity range, and extensive exposure and processing controls. But a dSLR offers better image quality (especially at high sensitivity settings), the flexibility of interchangeable lenses, more robust continuous shooting, superior support for RAW images, faster AF, and the benefit of an eye-level optical viewfinder. The S6000fd has its advantages, including high-quality VGA-sized movies, intensified viewfinder image in dim lighting, menu operation and image playback on its eye-level EVF, Intelligent Face Detection, built-in macro/super macro modes and a lower price.”
PhotographyBlog - 1/23/2007 - reviews the 6.3 megapixel Fujifilm FinePix S6000fd and writes - “Compared with the likes of the Nikon D40, Sony A100 and Canon EOS 400D, the DSLRs all offer faster performance (especially in RAW mode) and better image quality because of the larger sensor sizes. The 3 shot limit in the continuous mode, and complete lack of any continuous shooting when using RAW, will put off sports-shooters. In addition the RAW software that Fujifilm provides in the box is simply not up to the job. The S6500fd’s electronic viewfinder also suffers in comparison, being less comfortable and accurate than a traditional optical viewfinder, especially for action photography. So despite some great, DSLR-like features such as the manual zooming and focusing rings, the advantages of the compact digicam format (movie mode, live preview via the LCD screen, dust-free fixed lens) don’t quite out-weigh the disadvantages of this camera when compared with a DSLR.”
Biosmagazine - 1/15/2007 - reviews the 6.3 megapixel Fujifilm FinePix S6000fd and writes - “The FinePix S6500fd is aimed at people for whom photography is a hobby. If you want better-than-average 6-Megapixel image quality and manual controls but also want the option of point-and-shoot simplicity on demand, then it’s a solid choice. When it comes to image quality, the FinePix S6500fd is accurate with a slight warm cast to favour skin tones. Shots taken at the wide end of the lens also tend to exhibited slight barrel distortion and purple fringing, but that shouldn’t get in the way of everyday shots. Noise began to show from ISO 1600. With reasonably effective face detection, accommodating zoom and high sensitivity, the camera even does a good job of photographing the most important subject of all - people.”
T3 - 12/16/2006 - has reviewed the 6.3 megapixel Fujifilm FinePix S6000fd and they write - “Perfect for enthusiasts, this has an amazing number of features for the money. You get an adjustable shutter and aperture, continuous shooting and a RAW mode, while the menus are clear, and the LCD works well in dark conditions. The face detection is brain boggling, but this camera’s certainly not just for mugs.”
PCMag - 12/14/2006 - has reviewed the 6.3 megapixel Fujifilm FinePix S6000fd and they write - “To sum up: The Fuji FinePix S6000fd is an excellent buy for a superzoom, although the lack of optical image stabilization costs it an EC award. Our present EC for a budget superzoom is the Panasonic FZ7, which does includes this handy ability.”
ThinkCamera - 12/7/2006 - has reviewed the 6.3 megapixel Fujifilm FinePix S6000fd and they write - “If I wanted to buy a bridge camera right now I’d get a Fujifilm S6500fd. If I wanted to buy a budget DSLR with a travel zoom then I’d also think long and hard about whether the S6500fd wasn’t a better choice. It’s between £50 and £100 cheaper than the S9600 and unless you need the extra pixels I think it’s a better buy. It will also save you £100 - £200 off the price of an entry level DSLR and be somewhat easier to live with. The face detection isn’t perfect - many times it just doesn’t work yet but I like to see it as a handy bonus. This is a great camera with face detection thrown in.”
DPReview - 12/6/2006 - has reviewed the 6.3 megapixel Fujifilm FinePix S6000fd and here’s the verdict - “I must admit I didn’t really know what to expect from the S6000fd (having used some of its predecessors), and I was pleasantly surprised to find it was a well designed, well executed and surprisingly versatile photographic tool. It’s probably not the best ‘point and shoot’ model in its class (you’ll get better results if you know what you’re doing), but the combination of features, output and unusually able high ISO performance means that - whilst far from perfect - it can easily hold its own against some of it’s more ‘high profile’ competitors. If it had image image stabilization and better JPEG output it would be an easy Highly Recommended, as it is it - just - makes it through the door.”
ImagingResource - 12/1/2006 - has reviewed the 6.3 megapixel Fujifilm FinePix S6000fd and here’s the verdict - “Though the camera’s 6.3 megapixel imaging chip might not impress when stacked up against the sensors from some competing models which boast up to 10 megapixels of resolution, images I got out of this camera were rich in color and impressively sharp, even in a range of difficult shooting conditions. Or in other words, I’d take the Fujifilm S6000fd over many higher-resolution competing superzoom models, and even over some digital SLRs.”
Megapixel - 11/28/2006 - has reviewed the 6.3 megapixel Fujifilm FinePix S6000fd and here’s the verdict -
Negatives:
- No CCD-RAW + JPEG setting.
- Limited choice for JPEG image quality.
- Compression a bit too strong with Fine JPEG image quality.
- No Hotshoe.
- No optical stabilization.
- Design would have benefited from the use of a Command dial instead of relying on the 4-direction control.

p>Photo-i - 11/24/2006 - has reviewed the 6.3 megapixel Fujifilm FinePix S6000fd and here’s the verdict - “I used the FujiFilm FinePix S6500fd for about three weeks. It was love at first sight, but the novelty wore thin when I started to use the camera on location. I didn’t like the 1.5 seconds review time after every picture, when the “Live” picture came back either the camera or the subject had moved. Handling was comfortable and it is easy to see the entire viewfinder even when wearing glasses. The lens was more than sharp enough for most picture taking situations, but the focusing often spoilt the picture.”
ComputerActive - 11/16/2006 - has reviewed the 6.3 megapixel Fujifilm FinePix S6000fd and here’s the verdict - “The Fujifilm Finepix S6500fd is a decent camera with plenty of built-in features. It’s available for a lot less online, in which case it’s well worth it for those looking to step up from a digital compact.”
CNET Asia - 11/15/2006 - has reviewed the 6.3 megapixel Fujifilm FinePix S6000fd and here’s their conclusion - “The good: Lightweight; compatible with AA-sized batteries; 10.7x optical zoom that begins from 28mm; high ISO up to 3,200; face detection feature; manual zoom during movie recording. The bad: Difficult to toggle focus mode switch; no dedicated ISO button; mediocre bundled software; continuous shooting mode disappointing. The bottom line: The FinePix S6500fd is a lightweight megazoom which performs well in low-light with high ISO settings. But if you are a sports photographer, there are better cameras out there.”
Photoxels - 11/14/2006 - has reviewed the 6.3 megapixel Fujifilm FinePix S6000fd and here’s their conclusion - “The Fujifilm FinePix S6000fd is easily the best looking long zoom digital camera as well as being very comfortable to hold and use in the field. It consistently gives very good to excellent image quality, including low noise up to ISO 400, with very usable ISO 800. ISO 1600-3200 is a bonus. The manual Zoom Ring is a pleasure to use and the manual Focus Ring makes manual focus a snap. It’s one of those cameras that you just pick up and start using right away.”
DigitalCameraReview - 11/6/2006 - has reviewed the 6.3 megapixel Fujifilm FinePix S6000fd and here’s their conclusion - “The image quality of the camera is excellent and it takes some great portrait shots using Fujifilm’s face detection system. The camera is also built very well, is comfortable to hold and controls are mostly laid out well. The S6000fd is a good choice for a beginner looking for a camera to grow into or for a more experienced photographer who doesn’t want to go the SLR route. It works very well for portraits, close ups, and the long zoom lens can come in handy. It’s very reasonably priced for its very full feature set.”
DCResource - 11/5/2006 - has reviewed the 6.3 megapixel Fujifilm FinePix S6000fd and indicates they don’t appreciate that in shutter priority you cannot access the full range of shutter speeds, however, the cameras performance is very good in most cases with well exposed, accurate and saturated colors.
Note: We highly recommend you jump over and read the Fujifilm FinePix S6000fd review at DCResourse. You’ll appreciate the quality of the review.
DigitalCameraInfo - 11/3/2006 - has reviewed the 6.3 megapixel Fujifilm FinePix S6000fd and here’s their conclusion - “The 6.3-megapixel Fujifilm FinePix S6000fd touts its face detection technology foremost, but has a lot of other features to brag about. The 10.7x optical zoom lens has the look and feel of an interchangeable model, but remains sealed and keeps dust out of the camera. There is plenty of manual control, albeit sometimes difficult to access. The i-Flash system keeps details in the background of pictures and doesn’t over-exposure faces. The combination of the i-Flash system and the face detection technology keeps portraits perfectly focused and exposed. The Fujifilm FinePix S6000fd is one of the best digital cameras out there for portrait photography, but it doesn’t do well in other areas. It lacks image stabilization and its zoom ring is difficult to smoothly control, so movies are jumpy.”
CNET - 10/24/2006 - has reviewed the 6.3 megapixel Fujifilm FinePix S6000fd and here’s their conclusion - “Overall, the Fujifilm FinePix S6000fd is a capable superzoom. Its biggest drawback is that it doesn’t include optical or mechanical image stabilization to make its zoom lens more useful. Its high ISOs are helpful, but also come with unwanted noise. If you can get past that, this camera offers a wider wide angle than most superzooms on the market.”
DigitalCameraInfo - 10/5/2006 - has reviewed the 6.3 megapixel Fujifilm FinePix S6000fd and here’s their conclusion - “The Fujifilm FinePix S6000fd has a solid set of components on its sturdy body. The SLR-shaped camera has a Fujinon 10.7x optical zoom lens, a cushioned electronic viewfinder, and a 2.5-inch LCD screen with perhaps the best resolution on the market. The solid body is backed up with solid technology too. A 6.3-megapixel Super CCD is paired with a second generation RP Processor that is responsible for the camera’s flagship face detection technology.
The technology is activated easily with a designated button and works surprisingly well. The camera places brackets around up to 10 faces at a time – and does so very quickly. It then tracks the faces as long as they’re facing the camera. This technology is not only very interesting to watch, but quickly ensures that faces are always in focus for portraits and such. The S6000fd comes with a full manual to automatic range of controls and retails for the same price as many less sophisticated models. The Fujifilm FinePix S6000fd has a few strange quirks like the 3-shot burst mode, the lack of image stabilization, and the awful viewfinder resolution, but the $499 price tag and the other positive aspects of the camera are enough to look past those faults. Check back for our full review in the next month or so to find out how it performs in our battery of tests.”

Fujifilm FinePix S6000fd Initial Press Release
Valhalla, NY, July 12, 2006 - Fujifilm continues to make top-quality picture-taking a snap for consumers with today’s introduction of the SLR-styled FinePix S6000fd, the first digital camera in Fujifilm’s line-up with the company’s new Face Detection Technology.
Face Detection Technology operates exactly as its name implies, identifying up to 10 faces in a framed scene. Once faces are identified and prioritized, the 6.3 MegaPixel FinePix S6000fd adjusts its focus and exposure accordingly to ensure the sharpness and clarity of human subjects in the picture, regardless of background. And since it is hardware rather than software based, Fujifilm’s Face Detection Technology works in as little as 0.05 seconds, faster than similar in-camera detection systems currently on the market or soon to be available. Quicker operation reduces the likelihood of missed or blurry photos, frustrations often associated with digital photography.
