Professional Photographer Magazine - 7/2/2007 - runs Raw file tests on the Fujifilm Finepix S3 Pro UVIR and writes, “In the July issue of Professional Photographer magazine, Joe Farace reviewed the Fujifilm FinePix S3 Pro UVIR digital SLR, the first production digital SLR that’s capable of taking photographs in the ultraviolet (UV) and infrared (IR) light spectrums.”
DigitalCameraInfo - 3/26/2007 - has reviewed the Fujifilm Finepix S3 Pro UVIR and here are their thoughts - “The S3 UVIR is a potent and complex tool for technical photographers, with a steep learning curve. Fujifilm doesn’t offer training in the UVIR’s use. Company representatives say that the real experts on the S3 UVIR aren’t at Fujifilm: they’re users who have experimented with the camera, and come up with repeatable procedures. Some early-adopters in the technical field are making extra money training new users.
Buying the camera body alone isn’t the only expense, though. The camera only works in combination with special narrowband filters that cost hundreds of dollars each. A user could spend as much on distinctly different filters as on the camera body. Given the level of interest in this camera, we expect that Fujifilm will continue to serve this niche market, either with another production run of S3 UVIR’s or with an S5 UVIR.”
PopPhoto - 11/16/2006 - has field tested the Fujifilm Finepix S3 Pro UVIR and here are their thoughts - “All in all, this is a very important camera, as it will make forensics investigations much easier for crime scene analysis and forgery detection. For the fine artist, it also brings an interesting new worldview into light. Would we suggest selling off your D200 for general purpose photography and replacing it with the UVIR as your primary camera? Absolutely not! But as a second camera body for specialized light capturing purposes, the UVIR presents a fascinating alternative to the normal way of looking at things.”
