“The F60fd comes with a solid array of features for a compact camera, including adjustable aperture and shutter priority settings, advanced red-eye correction, a 12-shot burst mode, nine white balance settings and a 640×480 movie mode to name but a few. Unfortunately, the majority of these features are buried within an unwieldy menu interface.”

“By putting a lot of technology into a small, portable package, Fujifilm made a good pocket camera that takes decent pictures. Though it doesn’t quite rise to a Dave’s Pick thanks to its heavy-handed noise suppression and so-so optics, it’s a good camera that will serve as a decent pocket camera for those who won’t enlarge beyond 8×10.”

“Whether or not you already own the FinePix F50fd, this feature-packed successor is worth the price of the significantly improved Face Detection and the new SR Auto functions alone, making the F60fd one of the finest all round ultracompacts on the market.”

“When you also consider that the Fujifilm F60fd’s lens is only 35mm at the wide angle, it’s clear that the true audience for this camera is beginners and happy snappers. More advanced photographers accustomed to the quality and flexibility of an SLR are likely to be severely underwhelmed.”

CameraLabs
“The 12 Megapixels might not make much difference over the detail resolved by 10 Megapixel models, but it’s refreshing to find full control over the aperture and shutter, not to mention a number of innovative approaches designed to maximise your chances of decent people shots, especially in low light. And in our tests, the face detection on the F60fd was ahead of all rivals.”

“The PC World Test Center awarded the F60fd high marks for the fine sharpness and low distortion of its images. However, the relatively weak flash hampered its results in our flash shots.”

“Fujifilm’s claim that the new sensor provides “boosted dymanic range” was hit or miss, as we experienced plenty of blowouts and underexposed shadows.”

“We like the Fuji look, particularly for skin tones. It took some trial and error before we settled on the N setting and decided it was best to let the camera make the decisions, even if it does mean occasionally hitting ISO levels too high for clean pictures.”

“It’s upsetting to look at the noise images simply because the design of the pixels on Fujifilm sensors is designed to reduce the problem. To see noise at ISO100 is pretty disturbing because the HR sensor is supposed to get rid of noise.”

“We can highly recommend it as an intuitive, attractive, competitively priced pocket camera that takes pictures that are every bit the equal of its more expensive rivals.”

“It has phenomenal low-light focusing ability, but unfortunately it doesn’t have the high-ISO image quality to match.”

“I like this camera. It does what it sets out to do and does it well. Picture quality is good with vivid colours and plenty of detail.”

“There are too many shortcomings to wholeheartedly recommend the camera, though. Image noise and white balance performance are issues critical shooters will notice, but the camera’s pokey response will be obvious to anyone, particularly if you’re trying to take a sequence of shots in rapid succession.”

Pocket-lint
“The cons here are that the camera is slightly on the bulky side and running such a large LCD display on the back does affect the battery life, however the pro’s of the automatic scene selection mode, the face detection software and a stack of other features means that this camera is a pleasure to use.”

“Its picture quality isn’t too shabby, either. On the other hand, those used to or in need of fast shooting won’t be thrilled by the camera’s slow shot-to-shot times.”

DigitalCameraReview
“At the end of the day, that’s what the F60fd proves to be: a solid all-around performer that easily justifies its prices with great looks, great speed, great images, and low light performance that’s still holding on, however tenuously, to a leading position in the point-and-shoot world.”

“We want to like the Fujifilm Finepix F60fd: its solid styling, big screen and very decent pictures are all big pluses — but it’s just so fiddly to use.”
