Fujifilm and Oryx Quest 2005 - Cameras

Oryx Quest 2005 - The event

The first of two ‘Sea Quests’ devised by Quest International Sports Events. Oryx Quest 2005 pits the world’s largest and fastest sailing machines against each other in a non-stop round the world race that is only expected to take around 50 days. Oryx Quest 2005 is the first non-stop round the world race to start and finish in the Middle East. The race starts on the 5th February 2005 at 14.00. There are only eight of these racing leviathans in existence and at least 6 of these boats will be in Doha, the capital of the Gulf State of Qatar, for the start. The Oryx Quest 2005 route takes the boats down the Indian Ocean and into the Southern Ocean where they will round the Antarctic Continent before rounding the infamous Cape Horn and head eastwards. After rounding The Cape of Good Hope the fleet will turn North and race for the finish line in Doha. The daily dramas, the struggle against the elements of the world’s most dangerous environment and the tenacity of the teams will be broadcast for the world to watch. There will be a media person on board each boat sending e-mail updates, pictures and video for the world’s media.

Oryx Quest 2005 - The price

The fleet of Maxi Multihulls are racing for a staggering $1 million, the biggest prize in yachting history, and The Oryx Quest Trophy, crafted by William Asprey & Son, London. The trophy standing 56 centimetres high represents the synergy between Qatar and the oceans. Sport is the global language and sailing links nations in the true spirit of competition. Qatar and its sponsors have shown their vision for the future, re-defining sporting endeavour and providing an ideal launch pad for the tourist, business and sporting aspirations of their nation.
