Imaging technology is pressing forward into a new arena called “High Dynamic Range.” Traditional imaging is about to be challenged because HDR will push the envelope far beyond traditional methods. HDR comes close to capturing the dynamic range that the human eye records. The human eye can record approximately a 50,000:1 dynamic range. For over a thousand years media has been limited to around a 300:1 dynamic range.
High dynamic range photography merges multiple exposures into one hyper-real image to considerably extend the dynamic range.
Photoshop CS supports High Dynamic Range imaging.
There are some great plugins for Photoshop that helps achieve the effect, one is Photomatix which is offered as a stand alone program and also a Photoshop CS2 plugin. A free trial is available. [Digital Imaging Future - High Dynamic Range Photography]
