Women tend to focus more on pragmatic considerations when it comes to purchasing and using digital cameras. In a nutshell, women simply say they aren’t that interested in fiddling with complicated digital cameras, cables, and software.
Women’s biggest complaint about men and digital picture taking is that men take the pictures and then put them in the computer and they never get out. Kodak indicates its research shows that 80 percent of the people who make a habit of giving away photos are women.
In survey after survey women express consistent needs and wants about digital cameras.
Priorities
1.) Easy to use – Cameras should not require an engineering degree to operate and they truly want a point-and-shoot.
2.) No blurry pictures – Many photos look fine in the small LCD view screen of the camera, however, when enlarged they are blurry, and VERY disappointing.
3.) Turns on and ready to go quickly – Slow cameras are no fun to use and generally mean LOST picture opportunities.
4.) NO red-eye – The camera should take care of any red-eye problems.
5.) Small and ultra-portable – Should not feel like a brick in the purse.
6.) Easy to print and share pictures – Whether printing out photos or sending email copies to friends the entire process should be easy and straightforward.
The following list of recommended compact digital cameras are true point-and-shoot and many include the latest technologies such as antishake (antiblur), red-eye reduction/elimination, and ease of use.
Update 4-6-2006 – Sony has announced a new anti-blur Cyber-shot DSC-T30 that looks to be a digital camera that women will particularly appreciate. Looks like the camera will be available May 2006.
“When people are out having a good time, they don’t want to spend it learning how to avoid taking blurry pictures,” said James Neal, director of marketing for digital imaging products at Sony Electronics. “We’ve engineered our flagship T-series camera with intelligent, automatic features so people can spend more time having fun and less time understanding technology.”
We continually monitor digital camera ratings, rankings and popularity across the Internet. Technology, pricing, and consumer preference change and can have an impact on this list. With that in mind, check back often for the latest information and updates.
Note: Many of these cameras are so new there is very little information available. Check back often for updated pricing information and reviews.
