Redefinition Of “Entry Level” - Popular Photography Nikon D50 Review: Popular Photography reviewer admits that the Nikon D50 is not built as ruggedly as it’s older brother the D70 and lacks some of the external control buttons, dials, custom functions, or bells and whistles.
So the D50 weights less, but it would be a mistake to think that it’s a lightweight when it comes to digital capability. Its AF speed out-performs the D70s, Canon’s 8MP EOS Digital Rebel XT ($800 body only), the 6.1MP Pentax *ist DS ($700), and the 8MP Olympus Evolt E-300 ($700).

Nikon Coolpix S1 Shakedown Review At Hardware Secrets: Nikon’s ultra-compact Coolpix S1 is subjected to the scrutiny of the Hardware Secrets reviewers. The 5.1 megapixel Coolpix S1 is truly a pocket-sized digital camera with a fairly large 2.5 LCD.
Its Nikkor ED lens (with a focal range of 5.8mm to 17.4 mm which is equivalent to 35mm to 105 mm) offers a 3x optical focus with a twist: the lens doesn’t come out but instead travels inside the length of the body, using a prism to make the light hit the CCD sensor.
