Nikon Coolpix L4

Imaging Resource reviews the entry level 4 megapixel Nikon Coolpix L4 and writes - “For an entry-level camera, the Nikon Coolpix L4 does a passable performance, with a 4.0-megapixel CCD sensor, a reasonable 3x Nikkor optical zoom, and improved overall ergonomics. For the novice shooter, the Nikon L4 has a good feature set which along with Nikon’s D-Lighting, Face Priority AF, and Best Shot Selector, has 14 scene modes including four with Scene Assist. As a basic snapshooter, the L4 will serve just fine, capturing images sharp enough for 5×7, with punchy color.”

I cannot describe it as the perfect digital camera, but it is capable of taking a good photo. As with many cameras in this price bracket it is a lot happier outdoors in good light then it is indoors where the light is low. Shutter lag is also a definite problem.

It offers good image quality as well as lots of user-friendly exposure options, however its sluggish shooting performance and weak flash range were disappointing. With a street price of under $140, it does offer a good value if you take the majority of your pictures outdoors in the bright sun light and don’t need blazing fast speed.
