Leica officials have announced the D-Lux 4 digital compact camera. It features a 1/1.63” CCD image sensor, 3.0”, 460,000 dot LCD monitor and a 24 to 60mm (equiv) lens, 50MB internal storage, and it supports SD/SDHC storage and video recording.

Casio has launched the high speed Exilim EX-FH20 digital camera. following the momentum of the EX-F1 model, the FH20 offers a burst rate of up to 40fps and movies at 1000fps. The camera has a 9.1 megapixel, 1/2.3 inch CMOS sensor and 20x zoom lens. Priced less than the EX-F1 the EX-FH20 will be available from October.

SanDisk has released a 32GB version of their Extreme III CF card. All SanDisk Extreme III CF cards from 4GB to 32GB, as well as the new SanDisk Extreme III SDHC and SanDisk Extreme III Memory Stick PRO HG DUO, have received a 50 percent speed increase from 20 to 30MB per second. The 32GB SanDisk Extreme III CF card retails for $299.99.

If RED president Jim Jannard has his way DSLR users will by the end of 2009 have a new camera choice called DSMC (Digital Still & Motion Camera). As you might expect shock waves are rippling through the photographic industry with news/rumors/best guesses that high end video capability will be added to a new digital camera in development by RED, a company that produces pro camcorders.
Jannard, in a RED blog post on 9/8/08 titled “DSLR-killer” wrote “We believe, and are developing for late 2009, a replacement for DSLRs. Currently we call is a DSMC (Digital Still & Motion Camera). ” He mentions Nikon and Canon releasing cameras featuring high-def video and claims “RED has a more advanced view of the future.” In response to eager fanboy questions, Jannard replies that “I won’t comment on any specific until the 1st of the year.”

Canon is teasing visitors to its US website. The words ‘Destined Evolution’ are being displayed with a silhouette of a camera body. As usual speculation is running wild however, most agree that Canon is getting ready to introduce an upgrade to the aging 5D.

SanDisk has released the Extreme III 30MB/s Edition line of SD High Capacity (SDHC) memory cards. the new card features a 50% speed boost from older 20MB/s cards, the new card will hold 39 6MB images while shooting at 4.5 fps.

Sony has announced the 10 megapixel Cyber-shot DSC-T500 with high definition video recording. The T500 is an ultra-compact camera with a 3.5 inch touch screen LCD, optical image stabilization, face detection, and 5x optical zoom can create 720p HD movie clips at 30fps. Also included is a dual photo and video capture mode which allows still images to be taken while recording a video.

Canon has announced three new entry-level compact digital cameras. The PowerShot A1000 IS and PowerShot A2000 IS replace the PowerShot A580 and PowerShot A720 IS. The new PowerShots feature 10.0 megapixels, advanced noise reduction, faster buffering speeds, face detection and image stabilization. Last is the ‘ladies-exclusive’ PowerShot E1, available in white, blue and pink. The 10 megapixel digital camera features 17 shooting modes, 2.5 inch LCD, Face Detection, Motion Detection and Long Play mode for videos.
