“This is a very cool camera especially all it can do for a sub $250 price tag. Image quality and ease-of-use are second to the high-speed features, though. We feel that at best it’s an okay camera that cam capture situations that other cameras simply can’t.”

“By reducing the resolution to 6 megapixels the FC100 can shoot at an amazing 30fps! It also lets you record videos at 210, 420 or 1000fps, letting you see things that you wouldn’t normally be able to see, although at a much lower resolution. If you want high speed photo shooting, or extremely high speed video then this is probably one the the cheapest cameras available with these features. The camera also provides good image quality, and is a fun camera to use.”

“Its resolution performance was underwhelming, mostly due to low sharpness, and it doesn’t have very good color accuracy (on the plus side, image noise was quite low). The controls aren’t laid out well, given the size of the camera, and the menu system is frustrating. However, if you want the speed this camera can provide, at a relatively low price and slim form-factor, then you can probably look past those flaws.”

“If all you want is a decent compact with a 5x zoom, there are plenty of cheaper alternatives. But, if action photography is your bag, you’ll be amazed by what can be achieved with the Casio Exilim EX-FC100’s High-Speed Continuous Shutter technology. This is what you’re paying for in the end, so be aware of that before you buy.”

“The EX-FC100 is an impressive ultra-compact digicam. As with the other High-Speed cameras in this series, there are several great shooting modes for capturing burst shots and slow-motion movies that are not found on other digicams. To go along with these creative features, the EX-FC100 provides you with speedy standard shooting performance, and very good image and HD video quality. With a MSRP of US $349.99, this camera is well worth the money, especially if you have kids in sports or you are a fan of slow motion or HD video.”

“Ultimately people might buy the Casio EX-FC100 for the high-speed video, but then look past that and learn to appreciate its other functions much more. Shooting video at 1000fps is great, but when it comes to real-life situations the HD video recording and burst shooting (with shot selection) will be bigger differentiators.”

“I really like this camera and it’s such a shame that the noise reduction isn’t as good a version as it deserves. It’s great to have all the uber-fast features of the Casio speed series in a compact as I think it brings this amazing technology to more people. If this Casio can sort out the noise issues that the FC100 displays then it’s certainly a compact I’d consider investing in. However, that said I still really like it and it still scores highly.”

“It’s the high-speed shooting features that really set this camera apart. Whether the camera is right for you depends on the type of shooting you do. For shooting sports and other fast-moving activities, these features will allow you to capture very specific moments, assuming you can get close enough to frame a good shot.”

“Casio’s EX-FC100 digital camera is one of those models that excels in a few areas, primarily high-speed video and continuous-shot still imaging, which will make it a great camera for those needing those features. Few small, stylish cameras can match the high-speed capabilities of this Casio model, either with video or with still images.”

“This is a solid high-end point-and-shoot but with a couple of drawbacks. Macro mode is a pain to access, and this camera is on the heavy side, even though it has a generous 5X zoom. What makes the EX-FC100 a gem is its fast speeds, slow-motion video, and HD shooting, a unique combination of features you’ll get only from Casio.”

“Is it practical to pay a high price for what is essentially a point and shoot compact with merely good image quality, so you really need to ask yourself if you will make full use of all those high-speed shooting options. If the answer is yes, then the Casio EX-FC100 is clearly one of the best cameras around for capturing all of the action.”

“With the Casio Exilim EX-FC100, you do get a lot of fun and unique features. It’s the only camera we’ve seen so far that can shoot slow motion and 30-fps video and is small enough to fit in your pocket. But at $350, those features don’t come cheap.”

“All in all, it’s a cheaper way to get some slow motion in your life, and some of those other shooting tricks are original and unique enough to make the camera worth considering. But if you just want nice pictures, indoors and out, we wouldn’t exactly make fun of you if you said, “Oh, I think I’ll just go with the Canon instead.”

“The Exilim EX-FC100 is a unique camera, combining a well-made and nicely designed high-performance ultra-compact with HD video capability and some entertaining and potentially useful high-speed shooting and video recording functions. There’s no doubt that the 30fps continuous mode could be useful for action photography, but the HS video is a bit of a novelty gimmick with resolution too low to be genuinely useful. It’s also a very expensive camera.”

“I don’t want to come off sounding like a shill for Casio, but I have to be honest here. This is easily the most versatile camera on the market, and $350 is a price I’d pay myself for these capabilities. This camera carries the highest recommendation I can give (until its successor comes out), not only to regular picture takers who want a camera that does cool stuff, but also to serious photographers with DSLRs that want to have a pocket camera but don’t want to give up the ability to get that perfect shot.”

“Excessive fringing and various levels of noise, despite the fact that we shot at an ISO level of 80 anytime we had the control. The Exilim EX-FC100’s image quality varied, depending on the particular shooting environment. Dynamic range was not a huge issue, in fact we were impressed with the Exilim EX-FC100’s ability to balance shadows and highlights in most cases.”

Press Release
Las Vegas, NV, January 8, 2009 — Casio America, Inc. and its parent company, Casio Computer Co., Ltd., released some exciting details about its upcoming digital camera models today. Soon to be released are the slim, compact High Speed EXILIM models EX-FS10 and EX-FC100 featuring high-speed burst shooting faster than an SLR camera, and the EXILIM models EX-Z400, EX-Z270, and EX-S12, which make the most of Casio’s high-speed image processing engine to enable users to cut and paste moving subjects onto still backgrounds.
Casio has been a pioneer in digital cameras for over ten years. The new models maintain Casio’s long tradition of innovation and creativity. In 1995, Casio introduced the QV-10, the world’s first consumer digital camera with an LCD monitor so users could view the images they had just taken. In 2002, the company released the EX-S1, a card-sized camera so thin that it could be carried anywhere. In 2008, Casio launched the highly anticipated EX-F1 and EX-FH20, boasting high-speed burst shooting capabilities to ensure that users would never miss a crucial moment again, not to mention the ability to record high-speed movies that capture motion too fast for the human eye to perceive.
Casio’s effective use of fast digital technologies to deliver unprecedented high-speed burst shooting and high-speed image processing of these new models has exceeded all expectations of what digital cameras should be able to accomplish. These stylish cameras are the first bold step in a major transformation of the traditional definition of the photograph, offering users entirely new ways of enjoying still and moving images.
High Speed EXILIM models EX-FS10 and EX-FC100
By reducing the size of the circuitry and the image sensor units, Casio has produced two very small cameras that offer a high-speed 30 shot-per-second burst rate and high-speed movies at a maximum of 1000 fps. The EX-FS10 is a card-sized camera just .64” thin, and the EX-FC100 is a compact camera that fits perfectly in the palm of the hand. These cameras also offer a number of other innovative functions including allowing the user to capture a still image while viewing the movement of their subject in slow motion and automatically selecting and saving one frame from continuous shots.
Casio has set up a special website that demonstrates many interesting ways to use the Dynamic Photo function. Following the release of the cameras, Casio will offer new services that expand the fun of the Dynamic Photo function
“Casio is dedicated to creating ‘out of the box’ features and new technology packed into our digital cameras,” said Bill Heuer, Vice President of Sales for Digital Imaging Division at Casio America, Inc. “We continue to be at the forefront of the digital camera market, providing new levels of convenience for the consumer taking photographs and shooting high-quality videos.”
The six new cameras will be available at retail in March. The EX-FS10, MSRP $349.99 will be available in blue, gray, red and white; the EX-FC100, MSRP $399.99 will be available in gray and white; the EX-Z400, MSRP $299.99, will be available in brown, gold and pink; the EX-Z270, MSRP $229.99, will be available in black, gray, gold and pink; the EX-S12, MSRP $249.99, will be available in silver, pink, green and black; and the EX-S5, MSRP $179.99 will be available in blue, black gold, silver, pink and purple.
