KenRockwell has reviewed the Casio Exilim EX-V8 and he writes -
“This tiny camera does what it claims. If you can find one, get one, especially if you like to shoot movies! It has the biggest zoom range of any camera I want to put in my pocket and carry everywhere. The movies with stereo sound are a great bonus. I use these for landscape shots. No compact camera works well for sports, even with the long zoom.”
DCResource - 28 December’07 - reviews the Casio Exilim EX-V8 and notes that Casio has done a great job o combining a long zoom and a little camera body. Here’s and summation of their review conclusion -
“Overall camera performance is good. With a ton of features the camera can also be set to take care of everything for you. If you take into consideration the big zoom the photo quality is quite good however, there were situation where the camera tended to overexpose scene highlights. One much appreciated discovery was the lack of red eye when using the flash. While the camera is nothing to write home about if you can look the other way concerning its flaws it might just be your travel camera answer.”
Cameras.co.uk - 20 October’07 - reviews the Casio Exilim EX-V8 and writes that it offers extra zoom than other competitors in it’s class. Here’s and excerpt from their review conclusion -
“Picture quality is good in most instances although there were one or two blips during my testing. With its small size, ease of use and longer zoom this is likely to be a popular camera.”
Steve’s-Digicams - 20 October’07 - reviews the Casio Exilim EX-V8 and appreciates the fact that this camera offers full manual control. Here’s and excerpt from their review conclusion -
“The Casio Exilim EX-V8 is an extraordinary ultra-compact digicam. With a full set of manual, and automatic controls, a slew of pre-programmed “Best Shot” modes, and the one of the best sets of video features, it is definitely one of the best quality and most powerful ultra compacts on the market at this time.”
InfoSync - 07 October’07 - reviews the Casio Exilim EX-V8 and concluded that none of the photos taken with this camera were good :(. Here’s there verdict -
“Forget bells and whistles, a camera has essentially one purpose, no matter how it is delivered: to take good pictures. On paper, the EX-V8 seems like a winner: compact design, high megapixel count, 7x zoom, and a stereo microphone for widescreen video. But when asked to simply take a good picture, the V8 simply falls short.”
DigitalCameraReview - 04 October’07 - reviews the Casio Exilim EX-V8 and thought that overall the camera’s performance was enjoyable with an easy access menu system and quick to first shot time. One little issue; the image stabilization mechanism is audible when you partially hold down the shutter button. Their overall conclusion;
“The Casio Exilim EX-V8 is a capable ultracompact ultra-zoom camera, but mainly outdoors. The 7x optical zoom lens is nicely stabilized and performs well for being such a compact lens. The YouTube video mode worked well and the stereo sound capture was a nice feature. Image quality was very good outdoors. If you need to use flash indoors, results weren’t as good, with the weak flash and red-eye showing up way too often. Battery life was very good and the camera operated very quickly overall. If you’re in the market for a compact ultra-zoom, definitely give the EX-V8 a look.”
DigitalCameraInfo - 29 September’07 - reviews the Casio Exilim EX-V8 and writes;
“Most every point-and-shoot is capable of recording movies. What Casio does is uniquely partner with an exciting, successful business – YouTube. The popular video-sharing website appeals to everyone from the Star Wars Kid to presidential candidates. For better or worse, Casio effectively matches its customers with an already recognizable brand name. Even more, the camera model name, itself, is already recognizable – who hasn’t heard of V8 drinks or V8 engines? The V8 is much easier to remember than the four-numbered product numbers that modify Casio’s earlier Z-series cameras (eg. the Casio Exilim EX-Z1080). It is genius on its part, making good on a strong coupling between the digital still camera world and the popularity of the website dedicated to personal video.
As many pros as there are with branding, there are as many cons with imaging performance. The Casio V8 gets props for matching a 7x zoom lens on portable body, but the camera produces weak focus during zoom. While having an extra assist light for movies is nice, the assist lamp is overpowering during stills. General image parameters prove weak, with average color and resolution, and too much noise.”
