“For nonprofessional photographers who want to take action shots frequently, the Casio Exilim EX-FH20 is a godsend that drastically reduces guesswork. For the photographer with established skills, the Exilim EX-FH20 can be a nice secondary camera, though such advanced users may desire more fine-tuning controls in the EX-FH20’s manual mode.”

“While the Exilim EX-FH20 is an attractively designed and well made camera with superb handling and outstanding performance. It has some almost unique features, and although the high-speed continuous shooting is great for action photography, the 1000fps video mode is little more than a novelty. Image noise is also a major problem.”

“Casio deserves credit for pulling off the high-speed shooting features on the Exilim EX-FH20 at its price. It really makes me look forward to testing the EX-FC100 and the EX-FS10. Unfortunately, the photo quality on the FH20 seems to have taken a back seat, and usability isn’t too great, either.”

Digital Camera Review
“Casio has really pulled ahead of the pack when it comes to high speed shooting with the FH20. This camera is like no other on the market (well, other than the Casio Exilim F1) and, in that regard, is a star. Unfortunately, as a high speed camera and as an ultrazoom, the FH20’s image quality – both still and video – isn’t great. But if capturing action is your thing, then you should definitely check out the FH20.”

“Visible noise at relatively low ISO, loss of detail caused by the noise reduction of the camera, visible chromatic aberration, a limited dynamic range and an average performing zoom lens reduce the image quality of the Casio EXILIM EX-FH20.”

“In conclusion, the Exilim EX-FH20 does a great job at continuous shooting and recording movies, but it lags well behind the competition in many areas, with photo quality being the most important. If you need the ultra high speed modes that the FH20 offers, then check it out. Otherwise, I think you can do better, and for a few hundred dollars less.”

“While it produces very pleasing images and offers some of the fastest burst speeds available, the EVF and AF system problems I encountered hinder my full recommendation of this camera.”

“If you can bring the EX-FH20 along on a photo trip and use it with your primary camera, you can rely on it as a good burst mode camera or for shooting slo-mo video and high-def movies. Otherwise, we’d be hard-pressed to use it as a primary camera because the bracketing settings are hard to find. It’s too expensive as a throw-away pocket digital, and doesn’t take the most awe-inspiring casual shots, especially indoors.”

“Pictures taken straight from the FH20 were evenly exposed, displaying colours that were well saturated and warm, although they softened when attempting to shoot handheld at maximum zoom. At its 40fps setting, particularly when shooting moving subjects, focus inevitably wandered.”

“I didn’t find the image stabilization or low-light features to be quite as good as I’ve seen with other cameras in this price range. Still, that’s not what makes the FH20 special. It’s the high-speed modes that really let you capture images that you won’t get with other cameras.”

“This isn’t a beginner’s camera and if all you are interested is doing is snapping a few vacation or party shots now and then, you should look elsewhere. The FH20 isn’t necessarily hard to use, but there is a lot more to it than pointing and shooting and if you don’t know when to use what function you will not only be failing to take advantage of the camera, you’ll probably miss your shot as well.”

“The functions on the new camera are more streamlined than its bulkier predecessor: missing are the dedicated shooting mode switch dial, the multi-use focus/zoom ring and separate buttons for video and still capture from the F1.”

“Photographically speaking, there’s nothing that exceptional about the Casio. However if you’re a YouTube junkie and as keen on video as you are shooting stills, and being able to capture slow motion footage as well as widescreen vistas floats your boat, then the Casio EXILIM Pro EX-FH20 is worth further investigation. Pity though that the optical zoom is disabled in video mode.”

“This camera delivers a couple of absolutely amazing features, but can only muster mediocre image quality, and comes with a stiff price tag. Deciding whether you should purchase it or not boils down to how useful you’ll find those features.”
