I have several Canon SLR cameras and I love them. And I have some older point n shoot cameras. But I'm still looking for a camera that combines the best of both worlds. I was looking into a Canon G9 as a carry around camera when I can't or don't want to haul around an SLR.I have heard good and bad this and that about the G9.There is no camera made that everyone will agree is the perfect camera. I have read write ups, complaining it is hard to see the screen in bright sun light. Well, I have spent thousands on SLR's and L class lenses. I still can’t see the screen in bright lighting and if I blow up photos to 100% some-times I don't like everything I see. So why are most people so hard on the camera reporting? Like I said I have read the same complaints about $8,000 cameras. It would nice if someone just reported on the day today shooting. Rather then trying to nick pick every little in perfection they can come up with. If you read the reports listed here you can see some may opinions about the same camera. Seems like everyone got the same camera but totally adjusted differently from the factory. It blows my mind, no one agrees about it in the same way. If everyone looks at the same camera so differently how could any camera get a good revive and be what everyone wants. If Canon G9 is slow between shots, slow to startup, slow shutter responce, poor in low light, doesn’t work well at high ISO settings .Why would so many people be buying the G9 in the first place ? Aren't these the things we are looking for in a digital camera? I’m more confused then ever now on rather I would be happy buying a G9. I can't shoot with one before buying as I don't know anyone that has one. I would hate to spend the money only to turn around and be losing money trying to sell it again. If all of these things are bad with the G9 why do you rate it so high in camera value?

This camera is excellent unless you require a lot of control over the focussing, the zoom constantly hunts and if you need to get pin sharp results close up, it is very difficult.

SINCE I LIKE THE WAY YOU EVALUATE CAMERAS.
i HAVE HAD VERY GOOD LUCK WITH THE PENTAX IST-DL
AND AM CONSIDERING BUYING ANOTHER PENTAX 10
DIGITAL CAMERA WHICH OFFERS 10 MEGAPIXELS AND ABUNDANTLY MORE FEATURES THAN THE IST-DL.
i AM LOOKING FOR THE BEST POSSIBLE IMAGE SHARPNESS AND DEFINTION AND THE PENTAX -10
GIVES JUST THAT ACCORDING VARIOUS EVALUATIONS.
I VERY MUCH LIKE THE CANON EQUIPMENT, BUT THEY ARE TOO PRICEY FOR ME. COULD YOU SUGGEST A COMPARABLE DIGITAL CAMERA BY CANON OR NIKON, WHICH WILL FILL THE BILL? PL;EASE KEEP IN MIND THAT ALL OF MY PRESENT EQUIPMENT IS PENTAX.

THANK YOU, MELVIN A. HORST
