Ken Rockwell - 11/13/2006 - has reviewed the 5 megapixel Canon PowerShot A530 and here’s the conclusion - “As soon as I get some time and some sunlight I’m going to put an example right here of a shot from this A530 and one from a $3,000 Canon 5D and a $2,000 lens. Of course the 5D does more things faster in more conditions, but for a normal sized image in good light they’re about the same. Maybe I’ll twist the knife and show a shot at the default “dummy” settings of the 5D and compare it to a shot made with a correctly set A530, and then maybe wait for the right light with the A530. We’ll see. If it’s any consolation, I’m just borrowing this A530 and I bought my 5D personally, since for serious all-day work of course the 5D is more convenient and flexible. If all you want are good, normal, photos, the A530 is fine.”

DPInterface - 8/21/2006 - has reviewed the 5 megapixel Canon PowerShot A530 and they write - “I’ll make this short and simple, the A530 is a watered down A540 which sells at a lower price. Things like battery life and image quality are still good and the full manual mode is a plus. Performance was snappy too.

Despite that, the A530 has no priority modes, a small LCD and mediocre movie mode. As an added insult, the A530 is incompatible with conversion lenses and the A540 is a better deal.

My point here is, if you’re looking at the A530, then go for the A540. It’s a better deal. I wouldn’t mind paying a little more for the features I couldn’t live without (Large LCD and shutter/aperture priority).”

Imaging Resource - 8/9/2006 - has reviewed the 5 megapixel Canon PowerShot A530 and they write - “Built on the same long-tested design as many A-series predecessors, the Canon A530 offers a lot in its compact package. Its combination of automatic and manual features make the Canon A530 very approachable for novices, but still interesting for experienced users, the net result being a camera that will satisfy a broad range of interests and provide a good path for novice users to expand their photographic horizons as their experience grows. You can even put it in a waterproof case. One of the more popular features of the A-series is their use of AA batteries, something we also like. I’d like to see it equipped with a more accurate optical viewfinder (the optical path is not straight through the front to the back), and its image noise at ISO 400 and 800 was on the high side, but that’s pretty normal.”

Digital Camera Review - 07/24/2006 - has reviewed the 5 megapixel Canon PowerShot A530 and they write -

“The Canon PowerShot A530 is a capable digital camera with a respectable zoom range. It is a good choice for a traveler both in size and power source as AA/LR6 batteries are readily available almost anywhere. Canon’s choice of the SD/MMC memory card format is also a pleasant standardization.”

Canon PowerShot A530 - (5.0 megapixels)

Cameras UK - 05/24/2006 - has reviewed the 5 megapixel Canon PowerShot A530 and true to Canon’s reputation the quality of images is great. They continue to write -

“Considering the price of the Canon Powershot A530 I think it offers very good value for money. The camera is not perfect, but the picture quality is much better than most cameras in this price range are capable of producing. Throw in the manual exposure mode and the camera is well worth the money.”

p>CNET - 04/11/2006 - has reviewed the 6 megapixel Canon PowerShot A530 and rate it a 6.8 out of 10.

“The Canon PowerShot A530 is a solid budget camera that could use a shot of adrenaline.”

Steve’s Digicams - 03/27/2006 - has posted a new review of the 5 megapixel Canon PowerShot A530 here’s the conclusion.

“Like its big brother the A540, the PowerShot A530 is an excellent entry-level point-n-shoot model. It continues Canon’s tradition of offering outstanding image quality and performance, with helpful and easy to use exposure modes. It is small enough to be tucked away in an average size pocket or handbag, and the durable metal/polycarbonate body is sure to survive the active users lifestyle; or when Mom tosses it into her purse. The only annoyance I found was the flash recharge time and the fact that the LCD goes blank while the flash is charging. With an MSRP of only $229, we feel it offers an awesome value and will make any family, business, or tourist user very happy, whether you’re just entering the digital age or upgrading to a newer model. Love this model but want more resolution and a few added features?”
