Olympus Stylus 1000 Review - Pocket-lint

Pocket-lint - 12/30/2006 - has reviewed the 10 megapixel Olympus Stylus 1000 digital camera and here’s the conclusion - “This is a camera that has an Achilles heel, one it has in common with almost all other 10-megapixel compacts. It is the sensor itself, which is just too small for the number of pixel it contains, cramming so many in means problems with noise, fringing and detail loss. Less is so much more (as evidenced by the recently reviewed Mju 725) in terms of detail and reduced noise problems.”

Canon EOS 400D Digital Rebel XTi Review - JoeDecker

JoeDecker - 12/29/2006 - has an extensive review the 10.1 megapixel Canon EOS 400D / Digital Rebel XTi and he writes - “Seeing is believing, and at this point I’d be more than happy to use the XTi as a backup camera for my own landscape work, or even the only camera when weight was an issue (long hikes, etc.) I’d still likely edge toward my 1Ds II for critical wildlife work, not because of the high-ISO performance of the XTi (which is downright excellent) but because of the relatively slower focusing, but it’s not a bad performer even there. At a price point near $700, you can color me quite impressed.”

Canon PowerShot SD800 IS Review - DPInterface

DPInterface - 12/29/2006 - has reviewed of the 7.1 megapixel Canon PowerShot SD800 IS Digital ELPH / IXUS 850 IS and they write - “Image quality was overall satisfactory. On one hand, there’s low noise, optimal sharpness and color accuracy was there. The camera’s 3 cm macro mode also means you can get really close. On the other hand, the lens itself probably caused the downsides of image quality on the SD800 IS: Corner softness and color fringing.

I’d definitely recommend the Canon PowerShot SD800 IS Digital ELPH, which is an all-round camera, not having any really huge issues. Despite my recommendation, you may also wanna check out the Panasonic Lumix FX07 and FX50 twins which also have wide-angle lenses but retail for $50 - $100 less. The latter has a huge 3 inch display as well. So take a look at the SD800 IS, and also check out its competitors, and see which one you like better.”

Fujifilm FinePix F31fd Review - DigitalCameraInfo

DigitalCameraInfo - 12/28/2006 - has tested the 6.3 megapixel Fujifilm FinePix F31fd and here is their conclusion - “The Fujifilm FinePix F31fd comes with the 6.3-megapixel Super CCD that has made the F-series known for its clean pictures. The sensor allows for pictures to be taken in just about any lighting with its wide ISO range up to 3200. The natural-looking i-Flash helps illuminate subjects too. The F31fd has trendy new technology that recognizes up to ten faces at a time and while tracking and focusing on them. This is great for portraits, and it keeps faces properly exposed. The new camera also has IrSimple technology for wirelessly communicating with other enabled devices. The techy digital camera comes as a jazzed up version of the F30. Fujifilm’s F30 was a good thing, and it is made better in the F31fd. The combination of cool technology, manual control, and all-around easy functionality makes the Fujifilm FinePix F31fd a standout digital camera.”

Olympus SP-510 UZ Review - DigitalCameraReview

DigitalCameraReview - 12/27/2006 - has reviewed the 7.1 megapixel Olympus SP-510 UZ and here is their verdict - “Overall, the Olympus SP-510 UZ is an eminently usable digicam that will perform acceptably in a broad range of outdoor picture taking situations.

Serious shooters will likely be put off by the SP-510 UZ’s shortcomings, but scrap-bookers, family shutterbugs, casual photographers, travelers, and nature lovers will be impressed with the SP-510 UZ’s 10X zoom, broad features list, and comparatively low price. Long zoom fans looking for a camera that can grow with them as their imaging skills develop should check out Canon’s S3 IS.”
